Singapore Ducks Oregon Reunion FAQs

A group of us Singapore Ducks are planning a Reunion Weekend to our alma mater, 29-30 May, 2015. We hope you can join us! For more information, we’ve prepared the following FAQs:

How were the dates decided? May 29–30, 2015, are the dates of the (Pre), one of the biggest track meets held at the UO’s Hayward Field and a major international event. The past 17 Pre Classics have sold out, and another sellout is anticipated.

The meet is named after the legendary , a former UO standout who was America’s greatest distance runner at the time of his death in 1974 at age 24. Prefontaine once held the US record in every long distance event from 2,000 m to 10,000 m, and during his brief career he won 120 races out of 153. See meet schedule of events: http://www.diamondleague-eugene.com/Meet- Info/MeetInfo/

Two-day Proposed Programme Itinerary We have created a broad-based itinerary with activities that we hope will appeal to most. Bonding aside, full participation will yield cost efficiencies and ease of coordination. Your constructive suggestions are most welcome.

Before and after the two-day programme, please feel free to plan your own itinerary or organise sightseeing activities with other Ducks. Once the reunion participant numbers are known, we will schedule a meeting to give you an opportunity to meet other participants.

We appreciate that you may have some plans of your own, but we hope that you will definitely join us for the UO-centered events, which include the welcome breakfast with UO Interim President Scott Coltrane, the campus tour, and the reception and dinner. We are all encouraged to invite our personal guests, such as host families and professors, to the dinner, which will be hosted by the Office of International Affairs.

On which day should we plan to arrive in Eugene? Since the reunion programme starts at 8:00 a.m. on Friday, 29 May, we suggest you plan to arrive in Eugene on or before 28 May.

How do I book my airline tickets? We will each be responsible for booking our own air tickets.

Which hotel will we stay in? When should we book it? Singapore reunion guests are eligible for a special US$109 per room UO corporate rate at the Phoenix Inn Suites. We will each be responsible for booking our own hotel room. It is advisable to book your rooms in December.

To book your room now, please go to www.phoenixinn.com. On the right side of the page, where you enter booking details, please use promo code: UOSR to receive the special rate.

The rate includes one king size bed or two queen size beds per room; both rooms come with a small sofa pull-out bed. Amenities include complimentary wireless Internet access and large spacious suites, airport shuttle, breakfast, fitness centre, indoor pool, business centre, and free parking.

A block of 20 rooms is available on a first come, first served basis and should be booked as early as possible due to high demand during the Pre Classic weekend.

Can we book a different preferred hotel other than Phoenix Inn Suites? Yes, you may book another hotel but you won’t be able to take advantage of the corporate rate, and you may have to make your way to the meeting point at Phoenix Inn Suites because it may not be possible to pick people up from various hotels given the tight itinerary. For a listing of area hotels, go to: http://www.eugenecascadescoast.org/university-of-oregon/hotels/

What are the arrangements to attend the Prefontaine Classic, 29-30 May? We will each be responsible for pre-booking tickets as it is unlikely we can get tickets at the last minute. If you do not wish to attend the Pre events, that’s fine too. Tickets will be available for the Pre in late February, early March. We will forward ticket booking details as soon as possible.

Admission is free on Friday, 29 May. Ticket prices on Saturday, 30 May are as follows: Reserved US$45 Adult GA US$34 Senior GA US$28 (age 62 yrs. and up) *Additional fees may apply

What is the plan for transportation within Eugene? We will be hiring vehicles, e.g., 7-9 seaters, depending on rates. The cost will be shared equally.

What must I do if I wish to confirm my attendance or indicate my interest? Kindly complete the online interest form at uoalumni.com/singapore-oregonreunion as soon as possible. Please e-mail your queries to us at [email protected].

When must I decide, and how can I register? The sooner we have an indication of numbers, the better we can plan ahead. Registration details will be provided soon at uoalumni.com/singapore-oregonreunion Please register by 28 February, 2015.

What if I opt out of the trip last minute? Cancellation charges (for flights, hotels, etc.) will apply, so we suggest you decide and block your schedule to make it happen.

Who can I contact for more information or to make suggestions? We’d love to hear from you! Please email your queries to us at [email protected]. Or you may contact us directly.
