WELCOME TO WIGTON

A warm welcome this afternoon are not gloating because we were for our third local derby of the in a similar situation last season season. REFEREE RESPECT ETC

As always the match referee is very welcome at Carlisle. Without the referee we would not be able to enjoy the Game. The referee deserves respect at all times and there is no place for any form of abuse to be directed at the referee, either on or off the field. Players regularly make mistakes, and the match official is not perfect and he / she too will not always get it right.

If the referee does make an error of judgement that should never the signal for abuse from a player, coach, official or a spectator.

Remember that, in almost all cases the referee is a volunteer and provides a service to the game so that we can all enjoy it. People wanting to referee are in short supply, and one of the reasons given for the shortage of volunteers is, alleged abuse.

PLEASE RESPECT THE REFEREE AT ALL TIMES. THE REFEREE The playing enclosure is out of bounds at all times except to those authorised to be there by the game regulations. Spectators are asked to remain behind the barriers (where they exist), and where pitches do not have a permanent barrier, you are requested to stand well back from IS AN the touch line. This will allow the touch judge to officiate without hindrance, and also reduce the probability of injury to any player or spectator in the event of a collision! INTEGRAL Whilst people are free to encourage their team it is expected that supporters will use moderate PART OF language so as not to intimidate or offend others. There have been instances, particularly at junior and youth games, where there has been encroachment on the field, or dubious verbal encouragement from parents. This is not a good example to set. Lads and lasses need the OUR freedom to express themselves on the field of play without any undue intimidation from the sidelines. GAME Carlisle RFC will not hesitate to take appropriate action where necessary, Have a great day, RESPECT PLEASE .

Above - an attack Kendal couldn’t halt! Captain 4

MORT’S MUMBLINGS Youth 9 Anyone who was at the entertaining fixture between Carlisle and Kendal last week could not help but be impressed by the fare that was offer - by both teams. Especially pleasing was the effort and commitment that was evident from the Carlisle team. It has been obvious for a while that there has been an abundance of talent waiting to gel as a unit. But, let’s not get too carried away. Gossip 12 There is no reason to detract from what was a fine team performance; the pack were excellent, and it was evident from an early stage in the game that they would dominate. Kendal, arrived at Warwick Road full of confidence, and in one or two cases, over confidence that was soon to be displaced. Their pack found great difficulty in competing with a fierce approach that we have come to expect. It’s all the more surprising given the lesser physical stature of Sponsors 30 our front row, and how it catches out the opposition.

Let’s not get complacent though; there is still a lot or work to be done with hurdles to overcome on the way. We should be rightly proud of our lads - eleven of the eighteen on the team sheet last week were all home spun through our youth system, and that is what community rugby should be about. TEAM LISTS 35 Today though could be a quite different exercise; last week was a top drawer performance against the current top team in the league, but this afternoon may be slightly different. Wigton have been languishing in the bottom slots without a win to their name until last week. Let’s not gloat - we know what it’s like to at the bottom of the pile; where were we at this time last season? Another Respect Code 36 solid performance and a bonus point win should, and will be the aim today.

3 MR PRESIDENT CAPTAIN COMMENTS

I am still smiling from the outcome last weekend, and I am certain there are a lot of people in the same boat (and Mort in his barge cap). Last weekend hosting Kendal arriving as the table toppers was a pleasure; unbeaten Kendal, and once again we came back from being two scores adrift during the last ten minutes to clinch a de- serving and satisfying win. It was a performance of character and heart but with plenty of areas to work on. These areas have been addressed and worked on dur- ing the week leading up to another eagerly anticipated derby game.

We welcome Wigton to Warwick for what will hopefully be a match as exciting and Welcome to Warwick consuming as the game with Kendal. It gives me over Wigton was a convincing one on paper. Going on past experience it will count very great pleasure to for nothing today in what will surely be a tight encounter, probably remaining in the welcome my opposing balance for long periods. I hope our lads have had a boost in confidence without becoming complacent after the Kendal result. And are ready for a dogged contest. number and colleagues We need to remember that we have no right of passage and that results have to be and I trust they will enjoy earned; little margins count, and that comes down to hard work and want, and there their stay with us - apart is nothing better than a derby match to get you up for it and the big W. from the result of course! LEXUS EVENT BY ANOUSHKA HOPE

Lex us UK requested Carlisle RFC to host the Northern England and Scotland Regional Qualifier, one of 6 events throughout the UK, the winners from each age group will take part in a National Final in the early part of 2015. 2000 children will take part in total, 260 of which took part in our event last Sunday. Carlisle RFC had 70 players involved, 2 Under 7's teams, 1 Under 8 team, 1 Under 9 team and 2 Under 10's teams. We originally only had one team in each age category but at the last minute we were asked to provide an additional squad at 7's and 10's due to some teams being unable to fulfil the fixture, we are very lucky at Carlisle RFC to have extremely healthy numbers in the mini and midi section so we could accom- modate this, our numbers are growing daily due to the popularity of Rugby and we are sure they will swell throughout the next year on the back of the 6 Nations and The Rugby World Cup. The teams that took part along side us were Northern Rugby Club, Boroughmuir, West of Scotland RFC and Billingham, all of which are very big clubs. The Under 7's and 8's took part in tag rugby and the 9's and 10's played semi contact rugby. It was a competitive day but more importantly everyone had a great time having fun and enjoying them- selves. All players received medals, Northern Rugby Club took the spoils across the board and were pre- sented with their trophies by the Mayor. Carlisle RFC can hold their heads up high from their performance both on and off the pitch, we have came away from the event with a great sense of pride all of this achieved through tremendous teamwork.

8 8 MINI & MIDI RUGBY

Last Sunday saw a feast of min rugby at Warwick Road when a festival was sponsored by LEXUS RUGBY.CO.UK. They hold similar events at venues throughout the UK each year and Carlisle were fortunate to be chosen as one of the locations this season. As well as teams from un- der 7s to under 10s from Carlisle taking part, others from Billingham, Boroughmuir, Northern and West of Scotland made the trip. There was a lot of great rugby on show at all age groups. It was all meaningful and competitive. But, apart from the honour of organising the event on behalf of Lexus, Carlisle didn’t manage any trophies. Northern swept the board at all age groups, receiving their awards from the Mayor & Mayoress of Carlisle, Cllr & Mrs Steve Bowditch who were present throughout. An excellent experience for all the children taking part.

Mini. Midi & youth rugby every Sunday at the club...... enjoy it

LEXUS EVENT BY ANOUSHKA HOPE BLAIN’S BLOG ON YOUTH

I’m sorry that I missed the Lexus Tournament at the club last Sunday; being away with the under 16s at Keswick kept me occupied! I know that the event was a great success, with children from five clubs taking part in what was a fantastic day for the club and junior rugby. No event of this nature happens without a huge amount of pre - planning, and as chair- man of junior and youth rugby I would like to thank everyone who had a part in getting the event off the drawing board. Special thanks to Barbara Gower and Anoushka Hope who were the leading lights - thanks for a great job well done. Thanks are also due to everyone else who helped in whatever capacity - volunteers, staff, referees and the hangers on! I know from what I have been told by others that everything went like clock- work (except the odd heavy shower) and all those from the north east and Scotland who ventured west and south on the day were very appreciative of what was done to entertain them. Thanks again to all, and the club has gained many new friends as a result of the festival - even Lexus man- aged to get orders for some cars! Congratulations to three of our under 16s who have been invited into the Tri Counties squad to represent Cumbria / Durham & Northumberland against / & Yorkshire over the coming three weeks. Mike Newstead (Austin Friars), John Short (Caldew) and Josh Watson (). Well done, much deserved and good. Ben Blain

COLTS V HORDEN 19/10/2014 The Colts continued their winning run with a comfortable victory against a weak Horden side running out 72-0 victors in windy con- ditions on the north east coast. The team are improving rapidly and responding well to the de- mands of the coach and levels of expectation for the group. Playing at a high tempo the side ran in tries throughout the game never taking the foot off the opposition's throat after leading by over 40 points at half time. Danny Gisborne scored his first hat trick with skipper Aidan Styles also bagging a brace and the re- mainder of the tries being evenly distributed throughout. "Nilling"the opposition was particularly satisfying with aggressive defence paying dividends. Despite the ascendancy there were still too many handling errors in the back line which would have proved costly in a closer match and will be where attention is paid at training over the next couple of weeks. congratulations to the following on their selection for the County Nathan Bell, Guy Graham, Vince Lung and Danny Gisborne.

Interested in sponsoring a match or a match ball...... please speak to John Tiffen or give him a call on 01228 513383.

MAIN MATCH SPONSOR

During the season, match day sponsorship is invaluable to the club, and to those individuals, companies and organisations who choose to support rugby in this way, we offer our sincere thanks. Your help to deliver rugby in our com- munity is commendable, helping to raise the profile of Carlisle RFC.

Thank you very much for opting to sponsor the game today, and we trust that you, your colleagues, friends and guests, will have an enjoyable afternoon with us. Doubtless, friendships old and new will be rekindled or developed over a pint or two; and your support from the touchline for the team will be appreci- ated by the lads and the coaching staff.

Again, our appreciation for your support and if you know anyone who may like

to follow your example, then please point them in the right direction!
