Perhaps Wigton have and it was only after the festive not had the start they would have break that we came alive. That apart, we ternoon after their first victory of wish you well for the rest of the the season. On paper at least, a season. We need as many convincing victory over fellow teams in the county at this level of strugglers, Eccles. At Carlisle we the game and you among them. Views expressed in articles in this publication may not necessarily be the official opinion of Carlisle RFC Ltd REFEREE RESPECT ETC As always the match referee is very welcome at Carlisle. Without the referee we would not be able to enjoy the Game. The referee deserves respect at all times and there is no place for any form of abuse to be directed at the referee, either on or off the field. Players regularly make mistakes, and the match official is not perfect and he / she too will not always get it right. If the referee does make an error of judgement that should never the signal for abuse from a player, coach, official or a spectator. Remember that, in almost all cases the referee is a volunteer and provides a service to the game so that we can all enjoy it. People wanting to referee are in short supply, and one of the reasons given for the shortage of volunteers is, alleged abuse. PLEASE RESPECT THE REFEREE AT ALL TIMES. THE REFEREE The playing enclosure is out of bounds at all times except to those authorised to be there by the game regulations. Spectators are asked to remain behind the barriers (where they exist), and where pitches do not have a permanent barrier, you are requested to stand well back from IS AN the touch line. This will allow the touch judge to officiate without hindrance, and also reduce the probability of injury to any player or spectator in the event of a collision! INTEGRAL Whilst people are free to encourage their team it is expected that supporters will use moderate PART OF language so as not to intimidate or offend others. There have been instances, particularly at junior and youth games, where there has been encroachment on the field, or dubious verbal encouragement from parents. This is not a good example to set. Lads and lasses need the OUR freedom to express themselves on the field of play without any undue intimidation from the sidelines. GAME Carlisle RFC will not hesitate to take appropriate action where necessary, Have a great day, RESPECT PLEASE . 2 2 INSIDE THIS ISSUE Wigton 2 Mumblings 3 Above - an attack Kendal couldn’t halt! Captain 4 MORT’S MUMBLINGS Youth 9 Anyone who was at the entertaining fixture between Carlisle and Kendal last week could not help but be impressed by the fare that was offer - by both teams. Especially pleasing was the effort and commitment that was evident from the Carlisle team. It has been obvious for a while that there has been an abundance of talent waiting to gel as a unit. But, let’s not get too carried away. Gossip 12 There is no reason to detract from what was a fine team performance; the pack were excellent, and it was evident from an early stage in the game that they would dominate. Kendal, arrived at Warwick Road full of confidence, and in one or two cases, over confidence that was soon to be displaced. Their pack found great difficulty in competing with a fierce approach that we have come to expect. It’s all the more surprising given the lesser physical stature of Sponsors 30 our front row, and how it catches out the opposition. Let’s not get complacent though; there is still a lot or work to be done with hurdles to overcome on the way. We should be rightly proud of our lads - eleven of the eighteen on the team sheet last week were all home spun through our youth system, and that is what community rugby should be about. TEAM LISTS 35 Today though could be a quite different exercise; last week was a top drawer performance against the current top team in the league, but this afternoon may be slightly different. Wigton have been languishing in the bottom slots without a win to their name until last week. Let’s not gloat - we know what it’s like to at the bottom of the pile; where were we at this time last season? Another Respect Code 36 solid performance and a bonus point win should, and will be the aim today. 3 MR PRESIDENT CAPTAIN COMMENTS I am still smiling from the outcome last weekend, and I am certain there are a lot of people in the same boat (and Mort in his barge cap). Last weekend hosting Kendal arriving as the table toppers was a pleasure; unbeaten Kendal, and once again we came back from being two scores adrift during the last ten minutes to clinch a de- serving and satisfying win. It was a performance of character and heart but with plenty of areas to work on. These areas have been addressed and worked on dur- ing the week leading up to another eagerly anticipated derby game. We welcome Wigton to Warwick for what will hopefully be a match as exciting and Welcome to Warwick consuming as the game with Kendal. The Green Machine has seen some restruc- Road for the match this turing and from reports and results, it seems they may be starting to click! Their win afternoon. It gives me over Wigton was a convincing one on paper. Going on past experience it will count very great pleasure to for nothing today in what will surely be a tight encounter, probably remaining in the welcome my opposing balance for long periods. I hope our lads have had a boost in confidence without becoming complacent after the Kendal result. And are ready for a dogged contest. number and colleagues We need to remember that we have no right of passage and that results have to be and I trust they will enjoy earned; little margins count, and that comes down to hard work and want, and there their stay with us - apart is nothing better than a derby match to get you up for it and the big W. from the result of course! If you do what you’ve always done, you will get what you’ve always got! Tom G. A warm welcome also to the match sponsor today.
