The aim of "Prima del Dopo" is to support and provide tools for families in which disabled people live. Without a process of self awareness they would run the risk of being unprepared when their parents would no longer be able to look after them. It is 3rd year already that the "Prima del Dopo Foundation" works for the autonomy of disabled people thanks to the adult foster home called "Milly e Memmo" in Grottaferrata (near Rome), where they experience an autonomy process and a form of community life. Currently the group involved of the project counts 15-18 people, aged between 20 and 50 years old with learning disabilities and in some cases of physical disabilities. In the foster they do everyday small works, sports, handicrafts and gradually get the chance to experience autonomy from their families. And there are already positive results of this work: a group of 5-6 people with the support of social workers of the Foundation live permanently in a community apartment of ¿Milly e Memmo¿ after completing their course of autonomy. Near the foster house there are some social cooperatives that works for the integration of disabled people, a farm, a restaurant where they work with disabilities, other family houses, a Professional Training Centre, a nursery, a shop of organic food and fair-trade commerce. WORK: Volunteers will support the staff for the everyday activities of the group of disabled people, they would encourage self expression, communication and interpersonal relationships through activities such as singing, music, drawing and painting, diary, beauty salon, recycling paper, day-excursion and home cleaning. Obviously with different departures from Ortona.
