After six days and nights crammed full of music, merriment, meetings and magical moments, there could be no doubt in anyone's mind that the thirtieth annual conclave of theatre organ lovers left an im­ pression of Chicago that was anything but ' 'toddlin' ''. "Chicago, Chicago, I'll show you around." Our hosts did just that! They showed us pipe organs in sites that took us to Joliet, Waukegan, Hinsdale, Rockford and Lan­ sing as well as to all corners of the city and its suburbs. Add to this three' 'extra'' con­ certs, a brunch at the Bismarck Pavilion, three cocktail parties and a banquet in the Palmer House, seminars and socializing, and you have all the ingredients for Fisher's next line, "I love it!" '' Bet your bottom dollar you lose the blues in Chicago.'' There was no time for "blues'' in Chica­ go! Even waiting in the registration line on Saturday morning was a pleasure as friends met once again and began catching up on the past year's happenings. Pipe work and chests were obtained from theatre Sunday, organs in Redding and San Francisco, California, and Reno, Nevada. The best parts were used to assemble the organ by students under the direction of Fred Nov. 11th Wood, an organ builder from Oakland. The new Grant organ was presented to the public in a recital by Emil Martin, Howard Scott, and George Wright on De- 2:00 PM cember 8, 1939. Mike Kinerk reported that the committee is working with the Marriott representatives to create more flexible terms in the reservation of room blocks. This negotiation is necessary in light of the present status of the economy. The Puget Sound Chapter is in negotiations with the hotel to lower the number of room reservations in light of the economy but is prepared to increase the number of rooms should it be necessary. Mike Kinerk, Convention Planning Coordinator, is proceeding with an abundance of caution in the reservation of rooms for upcoming conventions. The Renaissance Hotel (Marriott) has been most cooperative during the negotiations.     The Trio con Brio Martin Ellis Donna Parker Jonas Nordwall Jonas Nordwall, Donna Parker and Martin Ellis comprise the Trio con Brio -- a group of friends who combine an excellent caliber of musicianship with high energy, absolute originality and downright fun! The Trio con Brio members have been friends with one another for most of their lives. Jonas and Donna began the Trio con Brio with Tom Hazleton in the early 1990s. Upon Tom’s untimely passing in 2006, Martin Ellis moved from the roll of understudy for all three members to become the third member of group. Friendship definitely plays a huge part in working this closely to create the intricate musical arrangements they perform. Understanding each other’s individual style and anticipating musical thoughts and interpretations are key in three solo performers playing “as one.” The Trio con Brio explores new musical possibilities with their unique approach using three organs to perform original transcriptions and musical works from all time periods. Imaginations take wing and creativity springs into Technicolor as the Trio con Brio -- all accomplished classical/church/theatre organists and seasoned performers -- show that the organ is, indeed, the most versatile musical instrument in existence.
