Landslide area change and design storm evaluation - a case study in mountain area of Kaohsiung Jie-Lun Chiang (1), Yie-Ruey Chen (2), and Kuang-Jung Tsai (2) (1) National Pingtung University of Science & Technology, Dept. of Soil and Water Conservation, Pingtung, Taiwan ([email protected]), (2) Department of Land Management and Development, Chang JungChristian University, Tainan 71101, Taiwan Recently, extreme rainfall events occur frequently and cause massive sediment related disasters in Taiwan. The disaster seriously hit the regional economic development and national infrastructures. For example, in August, 2009, the typhoon Morakot brought massive rainfall especially in the mountains in Chiayi County and Kaohsiung County in which the cumulative maximum rainfall was up to 2900 mm. The typhoon caused severe damage in southern Taiwan. The study searched for the inﬂuence on the sediment hazards caused by the extreme rainfall and hydrological environmental changes focusing on Kaohsiung city. We collected the landslide records during the period year, 2008∼2016 and analyzed the area change of landslide. We also analyzed bivariate frequency of Typhoon storm events, and then employed copulas to model the depen- dence between rainfall depth and duration/intensity in Typhoon storm events. In this study, we discussed the hydrological and spatial variation during rainfall period of a typhoon storm by using big data, probability of landslide, copula and bivariate frequency to analyze the design storm and critical rainfall of landslide for setting warning criteria and building disaster reduction construction. We expect to give more infor- mation to decision makers to enhance the disaster prevention capability for the remoted mountainous communities in Kaohsiung, Taiwan..

In order to explore the status of the country’s degree of long-term care shortage and uncovered ratio, this research uses the Push- Pull-Mooring (PPM) theory to explain long-term care efficiency during 2010–2019 in each city and county. We collect longitudinal-sectional data for 2010–2019 from the Ministry of Health and Welfare’s Department of Statistics for 22 administrative regions in Taiwan in each year and employ dynamic data envelopment analysis (DEA) to evaluate the overall technical efficiency and the disaggregate output insufficiency to explain the research results. The main findings are as follows: (1) Cities near the capital Taipei have the highest degree of shortages in long-term caregivers and high uncovered ratios of people who need long-term care.

ABSTRACT — Five hundred and two Brown anoles (A nails sagrei) were collected for stomach content analysis from an area surrounding a plant nursery (23°25'51"N, 120°28'30"E) in Santzepu, Sheishan District, Chiayi County, as part of an ongoing study on this invasive species in Taiwan. The stomachs of five A. sagrei males contained vertebrate prey, which were isolated for identification to establish a basis upon which future studies can be based. These prey were identified as three hatchlings of A. sagrei, a Henzidactyhts fienatus hatchling, and a skink hatchling — most likely that of Spheitomolphus indicus.
