Mandat og arbeidsgruppe. På bakgrunn av samarbeidsavtalen mellom Vest‐Agder fylke og Mandal kommune ble det besluttet å nedsette en arbeidsgruppe med oppdrag å utarbeide en plan for framtidig drift av Andorsengården. Gruppen fikk følgende sammensetning: Fra Mandal kommune: Tore Askildsen, varaordfører og leder av arbeidsgruppen Arne Wilhelmsen, enhetsleder bygg og eiendom Jon Røkland, enhetsleder kultur Fra Vest‐Agder‐ museet: Sylvi Sørensen, avdeligsleder for Vest‐Agder‐museet Sjølingstad, Mandal og Vigeland Hus Thor Gunnar Hansen, regionkonservator i Vest‐Agder‐museet Mandal Fra fylkeskommunen har Fylkeskonservator ved sivil arkitekt Åse Bessesen møtt ved behov/ønske. I tillegg har gruppen invitert Unni Fredrikke Hald som representant for Byselskapet og en av testators nærmeste pårørende. Gruppen fikk følgende mandat: 1. Avklare framtidig bruk av Andorsengården i forhold til gavebrevet fra Magda Salvesen til Mandal kommune i 1953 der det bl a heter at Andorsengården: ” for all tid skal anvendes til utlånsbibliotek og museum til bruk for byen”. 2. Avklare framtidig bruk i forhold til driftsselskapet Vest‐Agder museet IKS 3. Avklare eventuelle behov for ombygginger og utbedringer knyttet til de museumsfaglige ønskene både på kort og lengre sikt. Dette omfatter opplevelsesmessig og oppbevaringsmessige behov. 4. Avklare eventuelle ombygginger i forhold til gjeldende bygningslov med universell utforming. 5. Avklare omfanget av eventuelle utbedringer og ombygginger i forhold til helt nødvendige og mer langsiktige tiltak. 6. Avklare om eventuelle brann‐ og sikringstiltak skal prioriteres eller tas parallelt med øvrige tiltak. 7. Legge fram forslag om framtidig bruk i forhold til eierens og mulige samarbeidspartneres ønsker og behov knyttet til hele eller deler av bygningen. 8. Avklare de økonomiske drifts‐ og investeringsrammer på kort og lengre sikt. Forslag til finansiering av investeringstiltak. 9. Utarbeide framdriftsplan for prosjekt Andorsengården. 2 Resultatet av plangruppens arbeid skal danne grunnlag for behandling og vedtak i Mandal bystyre. 2. Visjonen: “Et åpent og levende museum” Gjennom en faglig god forvaltning og fremtidsrettet formidling skal Andorsengården fremstå som en åpen, levende og aktuell formidler av distriktets kunst‐, kultur‐ og næringshistorie. I særlig grad vil en bruke Andorsengården til å løfte frem byens 5 store kunstnere; Adolph Tidemand, Amaldus Nielsen, Olaf Isaachsen, Gustav Vigeland og Emanuel Vigeland. Andorsengården skal være: en åpen, levende og aktuell formidler av distriktets kunst‐, kultur‐ og næringshistorie et sted for opplevelse av kunst og kultur i vakre bygg av stor kulturhistorisk betydning en positiv bidragsyter i en helhetlig utvikling av kulturtilbudet i byen en viktig bidragsyter til å styrke byens posisjon som attraktiv turistdestinasjon en aktuell møteplass for distriktets befolkning der en lærer sin lokalhistorie og sine nasjonale kunstnere å kjenne Dette skal realiseres ved fokus på: Forvaltning: Sikre, bevare og gjøre samlingene og de kulturhistoriske bygningene best mulig tilrettelagt for formidling og forskning. Forskning: Forholdene skal legges godt til rette for forskning på enkeltelementer og større deler av museets samlinger og historie. Formidling: Museet skal prøve ut og legge til rette for nye formidlingsformer med stor vekt på opplevelse og samarbeid med aktuelle aktører. Museet skal være opptatt av å rekruttere utradisjonell kompetanse og utvikle den digitale forteller‐ og formidlingskompetansen. 3 Gjennom faglig utvikling, nytenking og profesjonalisering, skal museet være oppdatert, aktuell og utprøvende i alle deler av sin virksomhet. 3. Bakgrunn Den historiske rammen Mandals kanskje eneste virkelige gullalder finner vi i siste halvdel av 1700‐tallet og fram til begynnelsen av 1800‐ tallet. Trelasthandel, skipsfart og skipsverft som reparerte havarerte seilskuter, ga store inntekter. Ikke minst til Nedenes‐familien, som omkring 1800 ble ledet av Giert Giertsen og Mathias Knutzen. Disse dominerte Mandal fullstendig. Det var ” Kongen av Mandal” Tørris Christensen Nedenes (1664‐1721) som la grunnlaget for velstanden. Mathias Knutzen var sønn av den innvandrede sønderjyden Johan Fr. Knutzen. Mathias Knutzen demonstrerte sin rikdom ved å sette i gang byggingen av Andorsengården i 1801 – 1805. Arbeidet ble utført av engelske bygningsarbeidere. Andorsengården består av hovedhus og økonomibygning, med tjenerbolig, stall og bryggerhus. Dessuten var det en pakkbod mot elva. Nedgangstider, statsbankerott, eksportstans for trelast i 1813, og utskriving av sølvskatten i 1816, førte til fallitt for Knutzen. 18 andre konkurser rammet Mandal i de helsvarte 1820‐årene. Mathias Knutzen døde i 1823, og Andorsengården ble solgt til Halvor Solberg. I 1834 ble gården igjen solgt videre til Gulow Andorsen(1791‐1867), som bygningen har sitt navn etter. Han ble konsul for England, Nederland og Hannover i Mandal. Han var med på å legge grunnlaget for en ny og jevn vekst i byen. Andorsengården var i familiens eie til 1953, da den ble gitt til Mandal kommune av Magdalene og Marie Salvesen. De var døtre av Gulow Andorsens datter Amalie, og søstre til Lord

    47 (4/2017), pp. 143–169 The Polish Journal DOI: 10.19205/47.17.8 of Aesthetics Małgorzata Stępnik* Modernist Sculpture Parks and Their Ideological Contexts— On the Basis of the Oeuvres by Gustav Vigeland, Bernhard Hoetger and Einar Jónsson Abstract The purpose of this article is to explore the ideological contexts of sculptural works by Northern modernists: Gustav Vigeland (1869–1943) from Norway, Bernhard Hoetger (1874–1949) from Germany, and the Icelander Einar Jónsson (1874–1954). The original iconographies of the Vigelandsanlegget in Oslo, Hoetger’s Platanenhein in Darmstadt, as well as Jónsson’s oeuvres collected in Reykjavik, will be interpreted in relation to wider discourses—i.e. Nietzschean influence, a particular taste for the esoteric (theosophy) and, last but not least, a noticeable aversion to classical form.     Gustav Vigeland: Renowned Antiquity and Renaissance Sculptor Vigeland Park covers over 80 acres in Oslo, Norway. There are 212 sculptures in bronze, granite or wrought iron created by Gustav Vigeland (1869‐1943). His sculptures were made between 1906 and 1942. It is the world’s largest sculpture park by a single artist. The park is open year‐round to the public because he donated all his works to the city of Oslo, where he died. The park was designed and architecturally laid out by Vigeland. The park was started in the 1920s but did not become a reality until 1949. The park has several sections shown and explained below. The park’s theme is the circle of life. Gustav chose the sculptures to be without clothes to not date them, therefore they are timeless. Gustav Vigeland was born Adolf Gustav Thorsen in southern Norway. His modest upbringing included a strict father, Eiesaeus Thorsen, a master carpenter. Thorsen was strict in religious matters, but also an alcoholic. After loosing money in a shipping investment, Gustav’s father opened a pub. His drinking caused his wife, Anne (Aanensdatter)Thorsen leave him with their three children and move in with her father. Gustav’s last name Vigeland, which he adopted in his 20s, is traced to a small far west area where he was born, a place called Vigeland (Viking land). As a youth he wanted to be a sculptor. He had learned to draw and do wood carving in school. His father’s death, but his grandfather’s care during his youth would later be seen in his sculptures.

    Gustav Vigeland. The power and feeling of sculpture Thiel Gallery 15 June – 29 September, 2019 The human condition and the power of eroticism and melancholy were the underpinning themes for the Norwegian sculptor Gustav Vigeland (1869–1943). He devoted his entire life to art and worked intently on completing his monumental sculptural projects. After a bohemian existence in 1890s Europe, he returned to Norway, to make portraits and innovative monuments. The final decades of his life were spent mainly on creating Vigelandsparken in Christiania (now Oslo). This exhibition seeks to give a fuller picture of the artist behind Vigelandsparken, Vigeland’s efforts to promote his artistic endeavours, and the importance of social networks. Vigeland was driven by his artistic visions, not least when it came to shape a public space for the existential quest of modern man. With its eight bronze sculptures, the Thiel Gallery has the largest collection of Vigeland’s art outside Norway. Four of these can be seen in the Gallery’s park: Man Embracing a Woman (1905), Man and Woman (1906), Old Man and Young Girl (1906), and Mother and Child (1907). Ernest Thiel supported Vigeland at a pivotal point in his artistic career. Their relationship is a fascinating aspect of the common Swedish-Norwegian cultural heritage. This exhibition is a tribute to the 150th anniversary of Gustav Vigeland, which is celebrated in 2019. Spiritual portrayal of bohemian and modern life Gustav Vigeland has a unique position among Norwegian sculptors, with a vast body of work and singular imagery focusing on mankind. The quote refers to a significant time in her life, her nine years in America, where she had found a sisterhood. It is part of a small collection of poems that was unpub­ lished, called Arbeidsglæde (Joy of Work). As a feminist in Norway, Hansteen had felt isolated, unappreciated, and misunder­ stood. She decided to travel to America in April of 1880, as she understood that the struggle for women’s rights here was well underway. As her ship departed the Kristi­ ania (Oslo) harbor, she wrote, “My misery is over,” as feelings of liberation emerged. She eagerly anticipated observing the inspiring suffrage leaders about whom she had read, and she would spend her American years near them in Boston (six and a half years) and Chicago (two and a half years).
