RULES Any ruling not mentioned in this document will revert to the Regulations of Baseball Northern Territory. PLAYER ELIGIBILITY 1) Players must be eligible to participate in the highest grade of Senior Baseball (i.e. players under 16 years old must meet the requirements of the Juniors Playing Senior Baseball Policy). 2) Players must be FULL financial and registered members in the current season of their local association. TEAM COMPOSITION 3) Teams will be comprised of: a) A General Manager and Coach b) All players who nominate to be allocated to a team roster c) Twenty (20) players maximum on a team sheet per game at the discretion of the General Manager/Coach 4) The playing cohort will: a) Have a maximum of 5 Marquee Players GENERAL MANAGER & COACH 5) The General Manager and Coach of each team will be selected by the Board of Baseball NT a) Candidates will submit an expression of interest on the form provided by the prescribed due date. b) The Board of Baseball NT will also consider recommendations from the Associations. 6) All General Managers and Coaches must have: a) A valid Ochre Card (NT Working with Children’s Check) b) USA Baseball Level 2 Coaching Accreditation (desired) MARQUEE PLAYERS 7) Players gain ‘Marquee’ status by: a) Being an Association-level award recipient during the past five (5) years. Awards considered for Marquee status are exclusively Most Valuable Player, Batting Award, and Pitching Award. b) Being on an Australian Baseball League or Team Australia roster in the past five (5) years, or higher. c) Being recommended for Marquee status by the Associations. 8) Marquee Players will not be eligible to change teams in following seasons (if they retain their Marquee status) 9) Marquee Players will be required to attend media sessions as representatives of their team. TEAM SELECTION PROCESS 10) General Managers and Coaches will meet with a representative from Baseball NT (who will act as a mediator) a minimum of one (1) week prior to the first round to select teams. 11) Player names are to be written down and separated by Marquee Status, Pitchers, Position Players, then placed in separate containers. 12) A single coin flip will dictate which team will draw players first. 13) Each General Manager will draw a player’s name from the container, alternating turns until each container is empty. Names are to be drawn by Marquee Status first, then Pitchers, then Position Players. 14) The Baseball NT Representative will review the final teams to ensure equal separation. RULES OF PLAY 15) Game Time a) 90-minute games or 5 innings (whichever occurs first) b) New innings can commence up to the 90-minute mark. c) The 10-run rule will be in effect after 4 innings. 16) Pitching a) 30 Pitch Limit i) If a player reaches pitch number 30 in the middle of an at-bat they may be permitted to finish the hitter. They will need to be replaced immediately after the at-bat is finished. b) Minimum Batters Faced i) Any pitcher entering the game must face a minimum number of three (3) batters before they can be taken from the game. ii) Except: if the new pitcher completes the inning. 17) Speed Up Rules a) Mound Visits i) Any time a Coach or Manager visits the mound the pitcher must be replaced. ii) A visit from the catcher is allowed but at a maximum of 1 per pitcher, with a maximum of 1 per inning. b) Runner for Catchers i) Must be a player on the roster that has not yet entered the game. ii) Must be a different player to the ‘Special Designated Runner’. iii) The runner for the catcher will be ready to go as the catcher has their at-bat. They must run for the catcher immediately after the catcher reaches base – regardless of the number of outs. 18) Designated Hitter a) Allowed per the Rules of Baseball 19) Equipment a) Wood/Wood Composite Bats only SUPER LEAGUE SPECIAL RULES 20) Home Run fence to be at 300ft 21) Special Designated Runner (SDR) a) The Manager will nominate a SDR before the game begins. b) Once per inning you may implement the SDR. c) The SDR may run for any player (except the catcher). d) If the SDR enters the game, you lose the SDR. e) The SDR must be clearly marked on the team sheet with ‘SDR’ next to the players name. 22) Joker Card a) May be used once per game per team. b) The Manager will notify the Umpire immediately after the opposition pitcher takes the field to begin their warm up pitches. c) The team will then begin the inning with runners on 1st and 2nd d) The base runners will be the last 2 players to have an at-bat in the previous inning – example: if the 4th batter in the line up is at-bat to begin the inning, the base runners will be your 3rd batter at 2B and your 2nd batter at 1B. 23) Suspensions a) All suspensions will be dealt with in accordance with Baseball NT’s policies and procedures b) Any player that receives a penalty of games to be missed will not be able to participate in any BNT sanctioned games until the suspension is carried out (including local association scheduled games) c) Any player that is proven guilty and accepts a suspension is ineligible to receive prize money. .
