Baseball Blurbs by Bruce | Tuesday | June 9, 2015 | Vs 2015 BASEBALL BLURBS BY BRUCE | TUESDAY | JUNE 9, 2015 | VS. WALLA WALLA SWEETS PAGE 1 BASEBALL BLURBS BY BRUCE Bruce Bennett, AppleSox Statistician Wenatchee at Walla Walla 7:05 tonight. Let the league season begin. This is the first of 54 West Coast League games in the next 62 days for Wenatchee. In league openers the AppleSox are 11-4, 6-1 on the road and 5-3 at home. They have a one-game losing streak...4-3 to the Yakima Valley Pippins in Yakima last spring. Wenatchee vs. Walla Walla Started in 2010 Wenatchee: - leads 21-20 overall, 19-18 in league games and is 2-2 in playoff contests. - trails 11-10 away. - has a 2-game losing streak and lost five of the last six to the Sweets. - five of the last 32 games have gone to extra innings. History Made Most in attendance at Sunday evening’s game very likely didn’t catch the significance of one lone foul ball. But, one fan who has witnessed 463 games knew immediately the magnitude of the moment. It took 15 years and four days (5,842 days) and 466 games for an AppleSox Paul Thomas Sr. Baseball Stadium first. What was the momentous, historical event that shocked the baseball world...a foul ball made it into the press box. The wayward horsehide entered the box in the upper left corner of the opening (from the playing field view). Before the prized sphere could be saved and sent to Cooper- stown it was tossed to a fan who has no idea the importance of what he now possesses. June 9 Games On the ninth day of the sixth month Wenatchee is 8-6 over, 6-6 league, 2-0 nonleague, 3-2 away and 5-4 at home. The are on a two-game losing streak with losses at home to the Everett Merchants and Kitsap Bluejackets the past two years. Standings East: Yakima Valley 3-0, Kelowna 2-1, Walla Walla 1-2, Wenatchee 0-0 West: Bellingham 2-1, Victoria 1-2, Kitsap 1-2, Cowlitz 0-0 South: Medford 3-1, Bend 2-1, Corvallis 1-2, Klamath Falls 0-4 @applesox | @applesox_radio | www.applesox.com | Wenatchee AppleSox | @applesox.
