Would you like to be a member of the TalkBack Panel

Would you like to be involved in checking that documents and letters sent out by St Leger Homes are in plain English and easy to read. We would like to expand and re-launch both the TalkBack Panel and the TalkBack E Forum.

St. Leger Homes recognises that not all consultation has to be carried out in a meeting room environment. Some tenants who would very much like to be involved, but for whatever reason are unable to leave their homes can still play an active part in the consultation process.

As a member of the group, you can choose to be part of the formal group (attend occasional meetings), or part of the E group (you would need a computer and access to the internet and a current email address) or indeed you could be part of both if you would like to!

As a volunteer member you will be randomly contacted by a member of the strategic involvement team when a publication or standard document needs reviewing. Contact may be once or twice a month maybe less; any amount of your time you can spare will be appreciated. Before you start you will also be offered training in „what to look for‟ when you receive the documents

If this sounds like something you would like to do, please contact the Strategic Involvement Team on 01302 862743 or email [email protected]

Stanley Gardens TARA (Stainforth)

The committee announced that they have booked a Christmas lunch for members to enjoy at Hatfield‟s at the end of November as well as a Christmas party soon after.

All the above just shows how busy the committee are and the members supporting them to enable them through the bingo sessions to provide all that they do. Yabba dabba doo!

Yet again well done to the Stanley Gardens Tara Committee and its members.

Barnby Dun Community TARA

The TARA have just started holding a community drop-in in their communal hall at Peace Haven to raise the profile on the TARA and raise funds through the running of a small raffle, sell cakes and providing books where a donation is given and providing refreshments. The drop-ins are held every Thursday between 10am – 2pm

The purpose of the drop-in sessions are to raise the profile of the TARA and help residents with their enquiries, signposting them to the relevant people who can assist them.

After running the drop-ins for 6 weeks the positive spin on the sessions are that the TARA has raised over £100 for TARA funds, each session has averaged of 10 residents which equates to around 40 more visitors to the centre per month, plus the TARA has provided a service for the local community. Also the communal hall is in use 16 extra hours per month.

At the last drop-in session on 20 November 10am - 2pm the TARA recorded 18 visitors had attended, raising over £20.

Please note the TARA is now holding their monthly Tara meeting on the third Wednesday of every month.

There will be a selection of leaflets, flyers on display with details of local and borough wide community events. Also information from service providers that may be of an interest to the visitors to these sessions, as well as information on the services of St. Leger Homes The sessions are complimented with light refreshments, a raffle, biscuits and cakes for visitors to buy to raise money for the TARA funds.

The group are also starting selling paperback reading books for a small charge as a service for those people who choose to drop-in to the communal hall. All tenants and residents are welcome.

South West Well at the time of writing we have exactly one month until Christmas Day… How time flies. Once again the South West community has had a busy time and thanks to all of the community groups there are great things happening on our estates. On a personal note Carol and I have completed our Walk Leader training and have some fantastic innovative ideas ready for the New Year. Carol has also completed her PTLLS course so watch out for her at future training sessions. Heather has also qualified to become a cook and eat facilitator and will be working

15 with community groups and Carol to run a course called Healthy Wealthy and Wise. Remember if there is anything you need we are only a phone call or email away.

Crags Corner TARA – Denaby The TARA was one of three events I visited on 31st October, following their successful bids to the ‘Anticipate’ funding stream. The TARA set about transforming Hickleton Street Communal Hall to become a scary cavern for the youngster of Denaby to enjoy. Committee Members ensured they looked the part and as you can see from the photo they certainly looked a spooky lot.

Harrogate Drive TARA - Denaby Fingers crossed for the members of the TARA who have recently taken the Food Safety course – the results will hopefully available for you all by the end of November. The new fencing on the estate is looking good and the initial teething problems seem to have cleared up . ***STOP PRESS*** Congratulations to those who took the Food Safety you have all passed and your certificates will be with you shortly. ***STOP PRESS***

Windhill HUB Junior TARA Housing is the flavour of the month with the group and we have been discussing what qualities make a good neighbour? What makes our estates look nice? And what we don‟t like to see on the estates where we live? It is hoped in the next few weeks we will be putting together all of the young people‟s ideas in to a piece of wall art.

Craganour TARA ‘Creepy’ Craganour continue to keep the children of Denaby entertained. The committee once again made a real effort to ensure that the evening was fun filled. There were hotdogs and burgers galore, a fancy dress competition, dancing games, word searches, lucky dip tombola, cake and chocolate apples.

Dog Daisy TARA The TARA committee are currently organising their grand Christmas event following a successful funding bid to the Communities First funding pot. They are planning an evening of fun and entertainment. More news of the event in next month‟s edition.

Mexborough Common TARA Well 12 years on and the TARA is going strong. The TARA held their Annual General Meeting at the end of November and I am pleased to report that they had a fantastic turn out. The TARA has been very busy through the year. Major successes include working together as a community to ensure that one problem private tenant was successfully removed from their tenancy. They have worked with a local CCTV firm to make Victoria Park a safer place and it is 16 hoped that the cameras will be in position soon. They are also in the process of writing a New Year‟s Newsletter that will be distributed to tenants and residents of the area.

Denny‟s Little Nippers

Denny‟s Little Nippers has now completed their Food Safety Level 2

qualifications and are awaiting their results. Fingers crossed ladies I am sure you will have all done well.

They have also held their first fundraising event and raised a staggering £200.

***STOP PRESS*** Congratulations to those who took the Food Safety you have all passed and your certificates will be with you shortly. ***STOP PRESS***

The funding bid that St. Leger Homes of Doncaster submitted with the help of Sam and Lesley has been successful. Just to wet your appetitie we will be running Healthy, Wealthy and Wise sessions in Edlington, Conisbrough/ Denaby, Mexborough and Rossington. More news to follow in the New Year

SLHD Strategic Involvement Team is working to re-launch customer involvement in:

 Mystery Shopping  Reality Checking  Talkback  Focus Groups  Area Forums  Consultations  Questionnaires

The Strategic Involvement Team is currently reviewing all of these volunteer groups, in order to put together a large bank of tenants, who will be trained to cover all aspects of the functions that they are interested in attending. The proposed bank of volunteers will be given a name, and specific training e.g. committee skills, basic letter writing, and computer / internet skills. They will also sign up to a contract which explains the purpose of the role and what is expected from them, while outlining terms and conditions for our volunteers.
