My goal is for you to make many times your investment in this ebook and reap big rewards, and to maybe even enjoy some reading to boot. (We might even Google the phrase “to boot” and see where it originated. Perhaps it had something to do with pirates?). Although this ebook is packed with information – eBay auction closing data such as titles, number of bids, and of course, prices, prices, prices… I wanted to give it a personal (and visual) touch as well…hence, this introduction. Here I will share with you my personal stories and photos of the eBay auctions I‟ve run and the books I‟ve sold and flipped for good money. (I may even throw in a couple duds just to laugh at them..heck, you have to laugh sometimes because you are bound to make a few mistakes, but if you do it the right way your mistakes will cost very little and your profits will more than make up for them). In addition to all these great prices, I‟ve included resources such as forums and discussion threads where you can learn much more. One of them alone, I think, is worth the price of this ebook, if you didn‟t already know it was there. So let‟s get to my story. “I wanna talk about me.” - Toby Keith I‟ve always loved books…first reading them, later, trying to write them, and now; both writing and selling them. Sure, I sell ebooks and all that cyber stuff, but I love to poke around an old thrift shop (preferably one undiscovered by the teeming masses, trolling for hidden gems. If I‟m lucky, I find something for a dollar and flip it for a hundred; other times I at least come away with a good read. One of my first good book sales was on eBay, and this one came as a big surprise. I had found an old copy of Fast Times at Ridgemont High at some yard sale. (I remembered reading excerpts of the book in a magazine when I was a teenager in the 80s..it really captured high school life at that time). This one looked good because I knew it was pre- movie…it had a generic cheerleader on the cover, not one of the film‟s stars. And it featured the “Soon to be a Motion Picture” burst. Well, here it is: 5 I listed it starting around $9.99; it sold for something around $90. I think some guy in California bought it; to this day I wonder if it was Cameron Crowe himself. That was a cool and unexpected profit, and it helped me learn one of my first “rules of thumb” in buying books to resell: look for copies that pre-date any movie tie-in. (These may not always pay off big, but for fifty cents to a dollar at a yard sale, I‟d say it‟s worth the risk). In fact, here‟s another example from the 2007 version of my flagship ebook, What Sells on eBay for What: Fight Club - Hardcover - First Printing rare 1 $149.99 Other nice finds: Winston Churchill‟s “Second World War” history set, as well as his “History of the English-Speaking Peoples” set. I have found these sets several times lurking at both estate and yard sales, so it is not too hard to find. The below picture of one of the sets I found (plus one of the books from the other set) will give you an idea of what they look like both with and without dust jackets: 6 (The book to the right of the picture, of course, is the one with the dust jacket.). The stack of red-and-black books to the left is the History of the English-Speaking Peoples without dust jackets; to its right is one of the Second World War series, in its dust jacket, which I threw in as a bonus. The paper on top of the stack is a leaflet that came with one of the sets. (If you can add anything extra you find in the books, such as clippings, brochures, or press sheets, those are of course nice bonuses to offer and can add to your bottom line). These Churchill sets are not difficult to find, and I come across them regularly at estate and church sales. I find them less often at garden-variety yard sales, but sometimes they‟re there. (The price can be better at such casual sales, not surprisingly). Books by Winston Churchill, in general, are lucrative finds and highly collectible. One eBay seller told me he makes $300,00 a year selling Churchill books alone! Speaking of history and book sets, another good one to look out for that is not hard to find is the Story of Civilization 11-volume set by Will & Ariel Durant. There dust jackets are very colorful so these are not hard to spot at a sale if they are there. Because there are 11 of them, they‟re not easy to lug away, but if you find a nice set in good condition, especially still in dust jackets, I think you‟ll find it‟s worth your while. Here is a picture of my own set on my bookshelf (I have not been able to bring myself to part with it): 7 So those are just a few visuals to get you started. As I update this ebook (this is the second revision, and I aim to revise it every year), I will be adding more photos and illustrations. Meantime, if, as you read this book, you want to know more about any of the books which sold, you can always look up the title on eBay to get a visual. I find that when I‟m book scouting, it‟s all well and good to have knowledge of prices, but if you know what particular valuable book spine looks like, and someone is hovering next to you at the sale, you have an edge over them to grab it first.     103Repensar los estudios ibéricos desde la periferia editado por José Colmeiro y Alfredo Martínez-Expósito Writing from and for the Periphery Carving Out a Place for Spanish Food Studies Lara Anderson (The University of Melbourne, Australia) Abstract This article explores the notion of the periphery as it concerns Hispanic food studies. It argues that the periphery has a multiplicity of meanings in this context, and also that it is useful for various methodological and substantive reasons. These include the initial academic marginalisation of food studies itself, the slow acceptance of culinary texts as an object of academic study, as well as the ongoing drive to move food studies from the margins of Hispanic cultural studies. By refer- ence to the Author’s own research on Spanish culinary nationalism, this article also shows how the tension between centre and periphery is key to understanding Spanish food discourses of the past few centuries. This discussion hopes to show that the academy is increasingly paying attention to peripheral cultures and objects of study. Food studies, broadly speaking, has slowly moved from a peripheral position in the academy to one of prestige and popularity. If, however, food studies scholars have been alive to the food cultures and discourses of countries such as France, England and Italy, the Spanish-speaking world has only recently begun to receive this type of scholarly attention.1 Although academic inquiry into the food cultures of the Spanish world is relatively new, journalistic dis- cussions about the nature of Spanish cuisine date back to the late nineteenth century.

SYNOPSIS After their father ( Tim Robbins ) leaves for work, leaving them in the care of their older sister ( Kristen Stewart ), six year-old Danny ( Jonah Bobo ) and ten-year old Walter ( Josh Hutcherson ) either get on each other‘s nerves or are totally bored. When their bickering escalates and Walter starts chasing him, Danny hides in a dumbwaiter. But Walter surprises him, and in retaliation, lowers Danny into their dark, scary basement, where he discovers an old tattered metal board game, —Zathura.“ After trying unsuccessfully to get his brother to play the game with him, Danny starts to play on his own. From his first move, Danny realizes this is no ordinary board game. His spaceship marker moves by itself and when it lands on a space, a card is ejected, which reads: —Meteor shower, take evasive action.“ The house is immediately pummeled from above by hot, molten meteors. When Danny and Walter look up through the gaping hole in their roof, they discover, to their horror, that they have been propelled into deepest, darkest outer space. And they are not alone.

Summary: This collection consists of materials gathered and arranged by Sam Eskin, an ethnomusicologist who recorded and transcribed folk music he encountered on his travels across the United States and abroad. From 1938 to 1952, the majority of Eskin’s manuscripts and field recordings document his growing interest in the American folk music revival. From 1953 to 1969, the scope of his audio collection expands to include musical and cultural traditions from Latin America, the British Isles, the Middle East, the Caribbean, and East Asia.

Baumann This article first appeared in The Mystery and Adventure Series Review #43, summer 2010 Books As Time Machines It was more than half a century ago that I learned how to type. My parents had a Smith-Corona typewriter—manual, of course—that I used to write letters to my cousins. A few years later I took a “typing class” in junior high. Students were encouraged to practice “touch typing” and to aim for a high number of “words per minute”. There were distinctive sounds associated with typing that I can still hear in my memory. I remember the firm and rapid tap of the keys, much more “solid” than the soft burr of computer “keyboarding”. A tiny bell rang to warn me that the end of the line was coming; I would finish the word or insert a hyphen, and then move the platen from left to right with a quick whirring ratchet of motion. Frequently there was the sound of a sheet of paper being pulled out of the machine, either with a rip of frustration accompanied by an impatient crumple and toss, or a careful tug followed by setting the completed page aside; then another sheet was inserted with the roll of the platen until the paper was deftly positioned. Now and then I had to replace a spool of inked ribbon and clean the keys with an old toothbrush. Musing on these nearly vanished sounds, I put myself in the place of the writers of our series books, nearly all of whom surely wrote with typewriters.
