Fence Wires
You need a wire that will stay tight long after the fence is built. If wire stretches easily, the fence will start to sag. You will have to spend additional time and money re-stretching the fence to keep it tight so your animals won’t break through. Stop wasting your resources, and use a stronger wire that will stay tight year after year.
Wire strength is based on the amount of carbon in the steel. The higher the carbon content, the stronger the wire. The stronger the wire, the longer the fence will stay tight. Pasture Management wire falls into three categories:

Fence Coatings
The type of coating applied to the wire is the difference between wire that starts to rust after the winter months and wire that will not show rust for 20 years or more. Even the strongest wire cannot withstand natural elements that cause steel to corrode and rust. To protect the steel, a zinc coating is applied during the wire galvanization process. In the United States, there are 3 primary levels of zinc coating.

Class 3 galvanized wire is the industry standard for durability because it has substantially higher concentrations of zinc than Class 1. The higher the concentration of zinc coating, the longer the fence keeps from corrosion and rusting. All items in the Pasture Management Wire brand are coated Class 3 and certified to meet the ASTM: A116 and 641 requirements.

Types of Knots
Fixed Knot
Pasture Management Systems’ strongest agricultural wire. The solid, one-piece vertical wire is locked to the horizontal wires by the fixed knot, which keeps the stay wire from slipping. It is engineered to stay tight and not sag after animal impact, making it the best choice for fencing large animals in or out.
Hinge Joint
The Hinge Joint knot is formed by multiple, vertical wires that are wrapped around each horizontal wire. It provides a stronger barrier than barbed wire, but lacks the strength of Fixed Knot Wire.
Barbed Wire
Two strands of wire reverse twisted with four pointed barbs every 5 inches. In addition to building a barbed wire only fence, use as a top line and/or offset wire to your woven wire fence to deter animals from leaning on your fence.
S-Knot
Used on Horse, Sheep & Goat Fence. Smoothed (S) design of knot offers better protection of livestock’s skin and coat than Hinge Joint. Solid vertical stay and horizontal wires are connected by a separate piece of knotted wire, providing greater support.

FIXED KNOT WIRE Pasture Management Systems’ longest-lasting and strongest agricultural fence. What makes this fence the best choice for your perimeter fencing is the one-piece vertical stay wire. Having one solid vertical wire running from the top to the bottom of the fence provides more support to the fence. The added support allows posts to be spaced up to 25 feet apart while keeping the fence tight. Pasture Management Fixed Knot Wire needs 40% fewer posts than hinge joint or barbed wire products. Hinge Joint Wire (Field Fence)
HIGH TENSILE FIELD FENCE Strongest hinge joint wire. Stretches up to 4%. 12.5 gauge high tensile field fence is stronger than 11 gauge low carbon field fence. 14.5 gauge high tensile field fence is just as strong as a 12.5 gauge low carbon field fence at a lower price.
MEDIUM TENSILE FIELD FENCE 13 gauge medium tensile is 64% stronger than 12.5 gauge low carbon field fence and only stretches up to 6%. Requires fewer wood posts than 12.5 gauge low carbon field fence. Pricing is comparable to 12.5 gauge low carbon field fence.
LOW CARBON FIELD FENCE Traditional field fence. Easy to work with but will not stay tight. Stretches out up to 14%, which is more than any other woven wire. Without regular re-stretching and lots of posts, it will sag over time. Wire will break under minimal pressure.

Electric Fence Wire
EXTEND THE LIFE OF YOUR FENCE A strong perimeter fence built with Pasture Management Fixed Knot Wire will be a reliable physical barrier to livestock and wildlife. However, creating a mental barrier will teach animals to stop leaning on the fence. Using electric wires to keep animals off the perimeter fence will add many years to the life of the fence. We recommend adding a 12.5 gauge high tensile wire to the top of your fence or midway up the post with an offset insulator and using one of our energizers to put electricity on it.
ALL-ELECTRIC FENCES Building a perimeter fence with two to five lines of high tensile wire is a popular alternative to using woven wire or barbed wire. Electric 12.5 gauge high tensile wire fences can be built with fewer posts than low carbon field fence or barbed wire and do not require regular re-stretching. However, electric fences must be monitored to make sure the voltage on the fence has not dropped. Without enough voltage, animals will breach the fence if they have not been trained to avoid it.

WHAT IS A CCA TREATED POST? CCA is short for chromated copper arsenate and is used for pressure treating agriculture wood posts to prevent rot, decay and insect damage. We manufacture our wood posts to various lengths and diameters using only southern yellow pine. After a period of drying, we pressure treat them with CCA to preserve the wood. The retention standard for CCA in treated posts in the agricultural industry is .40 pounds of preservative per cubic foot (pcf). We do not recommend using wood posts for fencing that have not retained at least .40 pcf of CCA.

BUILD THE LONGEST-LASTING PERMANENT FENCES In containment areas, livestock will rub on the fence. Rubbing puts significant pressure on any type of wire. Adding one or two electric wires to your fence creates a psychological barrier for livestock in addition to the physical barrier of the fence. Livestock will learn to avoid the fence, which will help it stay tight longer. Making electric fence a part of your permanent fence will add years to the life of your fence.
INCREASE YOUR FORAGE WITH ROTATIONAL GRAZING Ranchers know the importance of the quality and availability of grass in their pastures. In many cases, rotational grazing increases the yield and profitability of your land and livestock. HELPFUL TIPS FOR SELECTING AN ENERGIZER Focus on Joule Rating The Output Joule Rating, or the unit of measurement of energy exerted per pulse, is the only statistic that will accurately provide the power of the charger. Miles, Acreage, Volts and Watt Ratings on chargers should only be used as a general guideline. A good rule of thumb is selecting a charger that has a 1 Joule (J) output energy rating for every 6 miles of electric wire.
Power Source While using 110v AC (plug in) may be the most efficient use of power for a charger, the 12v DC (battery or solar powered) offers benefits if AC power is unavailable or unreliable. Generally, an AC powered charger is sufficient for permanent fencing needs. A DC powered charger provides flexibility for temporary, rotational grazing fencing systems.

PASTURE MANAGEMENT POLY FENCE Polyfence is a low-cost way to subdivide your pasture and keep livestock and animals where you want them. This form of electric fencing is an easy and effective way to cross fence pastures or creating grazing paddocks. In the United States, there are four primary types of poly fence. POLYWIRE Ideal for general farm use. Polywire has strands of polyethylene twisted around the metal conductors. POLYBRAID Best option for stronger livestock like cattle and aggressive goats. Electric Netting
Electric netting can be used for temporary containment or exclusion in multiple settings.
Whether you have sheep and goats you want to isolate from larger livestock, a free range chicken or beekeeping farm or want to keep wildlife away from your garden, these nets offer a simple and efficient electric fence. Need to move to a different location? Not a problem as the nets are portable. Works best with a portable solar or battery powered energizer. Simply clip the energizer output lead to the net and the ground rod.
We do recommend using at least a 0.25 joule energizer for every 164ft of netting used. See page 29 for more information about joule ratings on energizers.

The balls help with water temperature control and to seal the Waterer in summer to reduce evaporation and keep the unit dark. This virtually eliminates algae growth. The float inside is square providing a greater flat surface area to encourage full water shut off once the desired water level is reached. The float arm allows you to easily adjust your water level. Keep the level high in summer to meet increased livestock demand and lower during the winter to prevent the flotation balls from freezing in the lid.
