(ASI) Events presents comedian Daniel Tosh Monday, March 1, at 8 p.m. in Chumash Auditorium. Tosh’s casual style and sharp material are greatly enjoyed by his audiences, young and old alike, said Brian Bosch, student supervisor of special events. He is one of the most popular and successful college acts, performing at more than 100 campuses each year. Tosh has made numerous television appearances including Comedy Central’s “Friday Night Standup” and “Premium Blend,” “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” “The Late Show with David Letterman” and MTV’s “Punk’d.” “We know the students crave big comedians, so we are excited to bring someone with as much television experience as Tosh,” said Bosch. Tosh has also performed at some of the most significant comedy festivals around the world. He participated in the prestigious Just for Laughs International Comedy Festival in Montreal in 1998 and was invited to return two years later. Tosh also turned in triumphant festival performances in New Zealand and at Europe's largest comedy festival in Kilkenny, Ireland. -

Vitanza ABSTRACT Ironic Feminism: Rhetorical Critique in Satirical News aims to offer another perspective and style toward feminist theories of public discourse through satire. This study develops a model of ironist feminism to approach limitations of hegemonic language for women and minorities in U.S. public discourse. The model is built upon irony as a mode of perspective, and as a function in language, to ferret out and address political norms in dominant language. In comedy and satire, irony subverts dominant language for a laugh; concepts of irony and its relation to comedy situate the study’s focus on rhetorical contributions in joke telling. How are jokes crafted? Who crafts them? What is the motivation behind crafting them? To expand upon these questions, the study analyzes examples of a select group of popular U.S. -
