It includes information on all pubic and private schools that participated in Florida School Music Association sanctioned district and state Music Performance Assessments during the 2001-02 school year. The report is arranged by school district in alphabetical order. The following page includes a brief explanation of the various codes and terms used in this report. The Florida School Music Association (FSMA) coordinates and oversees all interscholastic music activities in the state of Florida. FSMA membership is required for schools that wish to participate in state sanctioned interscholastic music activities. FSMA sanctions the Florida Bandmaster’s Association (FBA), the Florida Orchestra Association (FOA), and the Florida Vocal Association (FVA) to sponsor District and State Music Performance Assessments for bands, orchestras, and choruses in Florida high schools, junior high schools, and middle schools. FSMA also sanctions student participation in the All-State performing ensembles sponsored by the Florida Music Educators’ Association (FMEA). Overview and Background Florida Statute 1007.271(24), states that postsecondary institutions must enter into dual enrollment articulation agreements with qualified private secondary schools in its geographic service area seeking to offer dual enrollment courses to its students. TCC has worked with the local private schools that have requested access to dual enrollment for their students. These agreements parallel the agreements made with public school boards. This year TCC is proposing agreements with Community Christian School, Community Leadership Academy, John Paul II Catholic School, Maclay School, North Florida Christian School, Providence Christian School, Robert F Munroe School, Savary Academy, Tree of Life School and Wakulla Christian School. Funding/ Financial Implications Dual enrollment students pay no tuition, fees. lab, or online course fees. The school districts pay the standard rate per credit hour, $71.98, for students taking courses on TCC's campus. This also includes online courses. The school districts also pay for the cost of the instructor if the course is taught at the high school site by a TCC instructor. The school districts are not charged tuition for summer enrollments. Also, school districts do not pay tuition for students who take courses on the high school campus.

The primary goal of the FMSH Program is to have a positive impact on the awareness of safety and occupational health hazards in Florida mining environments. FMSH will conduct effective mine health and safety training classes in order to eliminate fatal injuries and reduce the frequency and severity of mining accidents. “We are very proud that Florida’s incident rate continues to be below the national rate, and among the lowest in the United States, due in no small part to the effective training of its mining workforce provided by FMSH,” said Karen Miller, program coordinator of the Florida Mine Safety Training Program. “Our miners are our most precious resource, and they are the foundation of everything we have achieved. We place the highest value on designing programs to reduce mining accidents, injuries, and illnesses.” The FMSH Program continues to provide training in direct response to mining companies and contractor needs to ensure that they are in compliance with mandatory health and safety training programs for all miners in Florida. Representatives from several music stores were here and gave short presentations: • Stubbs Music Center-Roger Duncan • Beethoven and Company-Margaret Pendleton • American Music, Chris Williams He mentioned some info about recruiting at www.musicachievement.org and www.discoverguitar.com as some good resources. • Music Masters—Ken Kronholz o Instrument repair… please watch what your parents are buying. Some instruments made overseas require parts from overseas and that drives up the cost of repair. Chuck added that eBay can be a problem. Please be sure you pay your bills on time because these people are very nice to us. Dave Rollins also added a warning that WalMart is selling trumpets. Sam’s Club is also selling instruments. Please warn your students’ parents that these are not high quality instruments and may be unrepairable. “Sinba” and “Star Performer” are some brand names to watch out for. Thank you to Roger Duncan from Stubbs music center for providing the donuts. Chuck encouraged everyone to take the meetings seriously, your voice is heard and all input is taken seriously by the district and the board. Members were reminded that only FBA members are allowed to vote.
