It is my pleasure to extend a very warm welcome to all involved in the 2011 New Zealand Under 15 and Under 17 National Badminton Championships. Palmerston North is accustomed to playing host to North Island championship events so it is exciting to have the event elevated to national status.

We extend a very warm welcome to all teams and competitors visiting for the championships, whether you are a regular visitor to our city or this is the first time you have travelled here to play badminton. I hope you will have a most successful competition, and challenge you all to compete to your full potential. I am sure this will prove a memorable occasion.

Palmerston North prides itself on its vision of ‘young heart and easy living’ and being an exciting city in which to live, learn, work and play. Started umpiring when a player at Junior events. New Zealand Age Group Championships – Umpire Awards

There is a trophy to be awarded, per age group, for the best umpire over the entire event. When assessing the players; the Referees’ consider the following factors: • A good strong voice, able to be heard by both players and spectators • Correct terminology • Decisiveness of Calls • Umpire sheet filled in and used correctly • Confidence

Anyone who wishes to be considered for the Umpires Award should register their name with the Tournament Organisers and advise your Team Manager. Participants should be prepared to umpire at both the semi-finals and the finals of the Individual Championships
