BEDWAS, CAERPHILLY Part 2A Remediation PROJECT SCOPE VertaseFLI was contracted by Caerphilly County Borough Council to undertake remediation works on a site in Bedwas, Caerphilly, designated as ‘Contaminated Land’ under Part 2A of the Environmental Protection Act 1990. Site investigation works across the site had identified elevated concentrations of hydrocarbons and metals associated with the sites’ former use as a gas works, resulting in the risk of significant harm to the current site users. The remedial actions were required to facilitate the safe restoration of the garden suitable for the ongoing residential end use. VERTASE FLI ROLE The work involved the hand excavation of soft planted areas and PROJECT OVERVIEW replacement with imported certified topsoil. Lawn areas were excavated and reinstated with properly constructed hardstandings to CLIENT facilitate an alternative end use as agreed with the Council and the CAERPHILLY COUNTY BOROUGH COUNCIL householder, thus providing a pathway break. Other associated works involved the rebuilding of stone walls, pathway edgings and the preservation of existing live services. LOCATION CAERPHILLY The remediation of the site presented a number of significant challenges due to restricted access and working conditions PROJECT VALUE within the garden. Works were undertaken in close consultation with the householder under an accelerated programme in order to £26,000 minimise disruption. In addition, the owner had planned some future building works in the garden and VertaseFLI worked closely with DURATION Caerphilly County Borough Council to design the remediation works 2 WEEKS such that the requirements of the householder were compatible with those of the regulator. SERVICES PROVIDED An area of the site was lowered to accommodate the future building Remediation of Part 2A garden work and this was provided with concrete blinding with ducting and Excavation and disposal of contaminated soils drainage installed to ensure that the pathway break would not be compromised by future works. -

INTRODUCTION. 1. BACKGROUND The Monmouthshire Local Development Plan (LDP) Preferred Strategy was issued for consultation for a six week period from 4 June 2009 to 17 July 2009. The results of this consultation were reported to Council in January 2010 and the Report of Consultation was issued for public comment for a further consultation period from 19 February 2010 to 19 March 2010. The present report on Proposed Rural Housing Allocations is intended to form the basis for a further informal consultation to assist the Council in moving forward from the LDP Preferred Strategy to the Deposit LDP. -

Minutes of the meeting held on the 21 January 2020. PRESENT Clrs Davies, Evans, Morgan-Evans, Keates, Bentley, R Morgan, Catley, Rippin and Cty Clr Jones. Also present were the representatives of LRM Planning, Monmouthshire Housing Association and P&P Builders as well as a good number of local residents. APOLOGIES Clrs T Morgan, Phillips and Woodier. The first item on the Agenda was a DISCUSSION/QUESTION AND ANSWER SESSION with members of the public, councillors and the three representatives of MHA, P&P Builders and LRM Planning participating in a lively debate re the proposed housing development on Land to the South-West of Wern Gifford. Further clarification was sought by those present on issues already raised by the Community Council and private members of the public in their initial Pre- Application Response to the three organisations above as well as to Welsh Water/Dwr Cymru who were not present on the night but who would be attending the next Community Council Meeting on the 18 February. In no particular order of concern, the following points were raised: 1. Contrary to policy already outlined by MCC, relating to its preference for mixed housing developments, it was observed that this was a development relating completely to social/affordable housing. The answer given was that this was because partial grant funding had been obtained from the Welsh Government. 2. Access to the development (both when under construction and afterwards ) would have an enormous environmental impact owing to the increased traffic flow into Wern Gifford Estate especially around the Primary School entrance with children’s safety issues already a great concern. -

Church in Wales Review July 2012 The September 2010 meeting of the Governing Body was notable for the number of contributions from members with a common message: “The Church in Wales cannot go on doing the same things in the same way; some things need to change and we are open to – and indeed encourage – that possibility”. The Standing Committee and Bench of Bishops responded to this call by appointing an external review of the Church, with particular reference to its structures and use of resources, to increase the effectiveness of the Church’s ministry and witness. The Review Group’s members are prominent thinkers with a blend of experience in dealing with matters ecclesiastical and organisational: Lord Harries of Pentregarth, the former Bishop of Oxford; Professor Charles Handy, the eminent writer and adviser on business and organisational theory (and son of a Church of Ireland archdeacon); and Professor Patricia Peattie, former Convenor of the Scottish Episcopal Church’s Standing Committee and the first chairwoman of the Lothian University Hospitals NHS Trust. The aim was to commission a review that could move quickly to gather and assimilate information about the state of the Church in Wales, then provide independent advice on how the Church might reshape itself to be more effective in the twenty-first century. Given the extent of its members’ other commitments, the Review Group has pursued its task with extraordinary vigour and dedication. The Group determined its own approach and programme. It has visited every diocese in Wales, meeting with the Bishop and Diocesan team in each and holding an open meeting for Church members to express their views.
