45 now using Asia Training Centre (AATC)

The Airbus Asia Training Centre (AATC), a joint venture owned 55% by Airbus and 45% by Airlines (SIA), has successfully attracted 45 customers since it began operations at Singapore’s Seletar Aerospace Park in April 2016.

The 9,250 square metre facility offers type rating and recurrent training courses for all in- production Airbus aircraft types. Today the centre has six full-flight simulators, comprising two A330, two A350 XWB, one A380 and one A320, which are operating around the clock every day of the year.

Plans are being made for two more simulators, one for the A320 and one for the A350, to be installed ahead of schedule over the next 18 months. The centre also has another two simulator bays to cater to future growth.

When fully operational by the end of 2018, the AATC will be the largest Airbus flight crew training facility with eight full-flight simulators. It will also have six fixed cockpit training devices and extensive classroom facilities, with the capacity to offer courses for more than 10,000 trainees per year.

The centre’s focus on the A330, A350 and A380 reflects the popularity of Airbus widebody aircraft in the Asia-Pacific region, with over 700 in service and another 400 currently on order for future delivery.

The centre combines the expertise of Airbus and SIA to offer the highest standards of training for the growing flight crew population in the Asia-Pacific region. This is another example of Airbus’ commitment to bring support services closer to customers around the world, and especially in the key growth markets.

The AATC has 26 instructors and 35 support staff, and this will increase to 40 instructors when the centre is fully operational. Instructors have initially been drawn from Airbus and , with additional recruitment ongoing.

The courses offered are identical to those at the other Airbus flight crew training centres in Toulouse, Miami, , and Mexico City. Most of the AATC’s customers are from the Asia- Pacific region, but they also come from the Middle East, Africa, Europe and North America.

Airbus predicts that passenger traffic will grow by 5.6% annually in the Asia-Pacific over the next 20 years. This will see the in-service fleet increasing from more than 6,100 aircraft today to almost 17,000 over the next two decades, generating significant demand for training services.

In addition to its flight crew training centres in Toulouse, Miami, Beijing, Mexico City, and Singapore, Airbus also has flight crew training partnerships in Dubai and Seoul. The next Airbus flight crew training facility is scheduled to open in New Delhi in 2018.
