  • Sandra Oh Sandra Oh Is a Major Reason Why
30 INTERVIEW EDGE n Thursday nights in America, life simply stops for somewhere between 10 inte rview Oand 20 million television viewers as they settle in for the newest episode of Grey’s Anatomy . Sandra Oh Sandra Oh is a major reason why. As Dr. Cristina Yang, she plays opposite the series’ title character, Dr. Meredith Grey, who is portrayed by Ellen Pompeo. They lead an ensemble cast that has become a second family to fans since the show first aired seven seasons ago. As J.M. Stewart discovered in this interview, Oh’s knack for creating signature characters (think Arli$$ and Sideways ) comes from an astonishingly honest place. Sandra’s greatest talent, however, may be the ability to keep her head and value her craft in a world where performers are measured by SAG Awards and Emmy Nominations. Of which she has plenty, by the way. EDGE: How was it conveyed to you that Grey’s Anatomy was a different kind of medical drama? s e g a m I It was never said or expressed SO: y t t e formally. The writers and [series G / p u creator] Shonda Rhimes found a way o r G n of telling this story that just worked. It o i s i v is basically a classic storyline. There e l e T are five acts, each person has a C B A y medical issue, and a lot of the time e n s i these medical issues reflect what is D / o c i going on with the characters.

Fall 2016 FMS Newsletter - Notes from the director - FMS expands production - Documenting China - An anthropological approach to film - Internship rundown - Faculty profile - Dudley Andrew visits Tufts - Alumni snapshot - "Starring John Cho" 1 | P a g e Notes from the FMS Director The second year of FMS is proving to be as eventful and thrilling as the first. We are continuing to attract students to the program, and are ending 2016 with over 70 majors and minors. We are also expanding our curriculum by sponsoring or co-sponsoring innovative new courses. Highlights this fall included "Race to the White House" taught by CNN political analyst David Gregory, Susan Napier's "History of Animation," and new faculty member Alexander Shraytekh's "Popular Culture and the Arab Spring." Next semester, we are tremendously fortunate that our technical support specialist Natalie Minik, who is an accomplished documentary filmmaker, will be teaching "Documentary: History, Theory and New Directions" through the Experimental College. Among the events we participated in this fall, of particular note was "A Year Like No Other: Politics & The Press in 2016," which FMS Co-director Julie Dobrow helped organize. Featuring New York Times reporter Patrick Healy, National Public Radio reporter Asma Khalid, Mic co-founder Jake Horowitz, and moderated by David Gregory, the panel offered insights into the role of the media in this tumultuous election cycle. Meanwhile, in December we welcomed to campus Dudley Andrew, the R. Selden Rose Professor of Comparative Literature and professor of Film Studies at Yale University, who gave a stimulating talk on 3D. Finally, the merger with the SMFA continued apace, and we are in the process of integrating the SMFA's curriculum with ours.

Abstract This master´s thesis is describing music genre k-pop, its history, artists and their own evolution, and impact of the genre on society. It is also trying to introduce this genre, full of diverse music, dance and culture movements, to the public.

Name: Class: Yul Kwon, From Bullying Target to Reality TV Star By NPR Staff From Npr.Org 2012 Yul Kwon’s early life was mired with a host of challenges. Born to South Korean immigrants in New York, Kwon never had a positive role model from his community. In 2006, he decided to join the cast of Survivor and make a name for himself in popular culture. As you read, take notes on how Yul Kwon overcame his personal demons to become a role model for other Asian Americans. [1] Yul Kwon first earned his game-changer status when the Yale University-trained lawyer put his career on hold to compete on the CBS show Survivor in 2006. He became the first Asian- American to win that show's $1 million prize. That led to work as a special correspondent for CNN, a lecturer at the FBI Academy, and deputy chief of the Federal Communication Commission's Consumer and Governmental Affairs Bureau. Kwon currently hosts the news program LinkAsia on LinkTV, and recently finished hosting PBS' America Revealed, a mini documentary series "Yul J. Kwon" is licensed under CC BY 2.0. about agriculture, transportation, energy and manufacturing. Being A Target Of Bullying Kwon's early life involved a host of challenges. He was born in 1975 in New York to South Korean immigrants. He tells Tell Me More host Michel Martin he had a severe lisp as a kid, so many people assumed he was a foreigner who could not speak English properly. Kwon says he grew increasingly quiet to avoid being teased or beaten up.

1 Cultural Daily Independent Voices, New Perspectives Ali Wong Elisa Leonelli · Wednesday, October 2nd, 2019 I was already familiar with the work of Randall Park. I had interviewed him in 2014 for the Seth Rogen comedy The Interview, where he played North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, then I had seen him in the TV sitcom Fresh Off the Boat (2015-2019), where the Los Angeles born son of South Korean parents plays a Chinese-American from Taiwan, and Constance Wu plays his wife. But I was not yet aware of Ali Wong. So, when a romantic comedy starring the two actors was previewed for press, Always Be My Maybe, I was eager to see it. It was released on Netflix on May 31, only 2 days after a limited theatrical release. Cultural Daily - 1 / 6 - 04.08.2021 2 I was impressed by this funny and original love story, set in San Francisco, where the woman is a celebrity chef opening a new restaurant, while the man is a struggling musician still living at home with his parents. And I was delighted to discover Ali Wong, born Alexandra Wong in San Francisco from a Chinese-American physician father and a Vietnamese immigrant mother. She majored in Asian-American Studies at UCLA, where she joined a theater group Randall Park had founded, and the two have been friends and creative collaborators ever since. Wong is a writer on Fresh Off the Cultural Daily - 2 / 6 - 04.08.2021 3 Boat, and both actors worked on the screenplay for the movie.
