Sixteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time — July 23, 2017 Those who are just must be kind. — Wisdom 12:19

In the Gospel reading this week Jesus continues to teach his followers through the telling of parables. The parable of the wheat and the weeds could have various interpretations but Jesus further clarifies when asked by his disciples. At the heart of the parable is the decision of the sower (Jesus) to allow the wheat and the weeds to grow up together. To attempt to root out the weeds while both are growing is too dangerous; wheat might be damaged by the techniques employed to cull the weeds or wheat might be mistaken for a weed and erroneously destroyed. Instead both should be allowed to grow and at the time of the harvest the sower can make the determination of what is wheat and what is weed. The people tending the harvest are not to make this determination, only the sower. So it is with us, it is not our responsibility to determine who is worthy or unworthy. God alone is capable of making these determinations, and God does not make these calculations with our limited human tools or understanding. God knows, loves and values every person in the world, past, present and future. This is a mystery beyond our human Olive tree, grapevines and pear tree in the central understanding but Jesus’ teaching through the parable courtyard. This pear tree was grafted from one of the makes it clear that it is not for us to determine who is pear trees in the original Mission orchards from the loved by God, rather we must the mystery of time of St. Junípero Serra. STEWARDSHIP

ANNUAL MINISTRY APPEAL 2017

One Faith, One Family A Community of Faith, Hope and Charity

Dear Mission Families in Christ, We are profoundly grateful to all of you who have supported our Annual Ministry Appeal (AMA) and the Crespi Parish Hall renovation this year! Your generosity has shown that our community is truly “One Faith, One Family”. All (100%) of your contributions to our only annual parish appeal are going directly to benefit the ministries of the Diocese and the much-needed renovation of our own parish hall. Our parish community has increased our response to the AMA every year since 2013. This year our campaign was a further success. The number of individual contributors increased by 25% from last year and the total contributions from the appeal increased 36%! The funds received will be distributed as follows: 1. $51,800 to meet our Diocesan appeal assessment 2. Crespi Parish Hall Renovation: a. $32,200 excess AMA contributions to the Crespi project b. $25,000 excess AMA contributions from the prior two years c. $21,000 direct contributions from parishioners to the renovation project. Total $78,200 to fund the project We are excited that work has already begun on Crespi! Construction of the new office is well under way. Work on the project has uncovered opportunities to create additional much needed office space and storage areas which we are excited about. We are also working with the Knights of Columbus to plan upgrades to the kitchen. All construction is being scheduled in a manner to minimize any interruptions in use by our parishioners and ministries. As more funds become available, we will be working on the upgrades to the bathroom. As Pope Francis said, “When you give of your time, your talents and your resources to the many people who struggle and who live on the margins, you make a difference”. Your support of the ministries of the Diocese and our church make a difference.

Thank You for your Stewardship! Your connued generosity for the week ending 7/16/2017 Plate Collecons: $ 14,063.70 Second Collecon: Maintenance: $ 1,964.00 Total Weekly Contribuons: $ 16,027.70. I thank you for your sense of Stewardship and your great generosity. Blessings of Joy, Hope and Peace—Fr. Paul, Pastor.
