Senate Resolution #7 2012-2013 Recognition of Dr. Tom Osborne’s Years of Service to the University and His Retirement 1 WHEREAS, Dr. Tom Osborne began his coaching career at the University of 2 in 1964 as an offensive assistant to Coach , and then as Offensive 3 Coordinator in 1969; and, 4 5 WHEREAS, upon Coach Devaney’s retirement, Tom Osborne took over as head 6 football coach at the University of Nebraska in 1973; and, 7 8 WHEREAS, Coach Tom Osborne continued the standard of excellence set by Coach 9 Devaney, winning 255 games, 13 Conference Titles in the Big 8 and Big 12, and 3 National 10 Titles in his 25 years as the head football coach before retiring in 1998; and, 11 12 WHEREAS, Dr. Tom Osborne was elected to the US House of Representatives in 13 2001 and stayed in the House until 2007 before retiring; and, 14 15 WHEREAS, Dr. Tom Osborne came out of retirement, and was named on October 16 16th 2007 as the new University of Nebraska ; and, 17 18 WHEREAS, On September 26th, 2012, Dr. Tom Osborne announced his retirement 19 as the University of Nebraska Athletic Director effective January 1st, 2013; and, 20 21 WHEREAS, During his time as Athletic Director, Dr. Tom Osborne helped move the 22 University of Nebraska to the , and expanded and improved athletic 23 facilities on campus; and, 24 25 WHEREAS, During his years of service to the University, Dr. Tom Osborne has 26 helped shape the lives of students at the University, and has brought national recognition to 27 the University. 28 29 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, the Association of Students of the University 30 of Nebraska recognizes the 34 years of coaching football and 5 years of service as Athletic 31 Director; and, 32 33 THEREFORE, BE IT FINALLYT RESOLVED, ASUN thanks Dr. Tom Osborne 34 for his years of service and wishes him well in his retirement
