NEW YORK OPEN TALKING POINTS

• The New York Open is back at the NYCB Live, home of the Nassau Coliseum, for the third straight year. In 2018, the tournament relocated from Memphis to Long Island, ensuring the continuation of one of the ATP Tour’s longest-running tournaments in the United States (San Jose held the event from 1994 through 2013, before it moved to Memphis in 2014). Prior to 2018, Long Island had not held an ATP Tour event since 2004.

• The champions from the first two New York editions of the tournament, Kevin Anderson (2018) and Reilly Opelka (2019) return to the event. Anderson was unable to defend his title last year due to an elbow injury.

• Top seed John Isner leads a strong field of Americans on home soil, with eight U.S. players in the main draw thus far (three more Americans could also win final-round qualifying matches on Monday). Isner, seeded No. 1 for the second year in a row, is still seeking his first final at this event, with two semi-finals as his best results.

• Isner fell to Opelka in the 2019 semi-finals, where they combined for 81 aces, the most in a best-of-3-set match since stats started being tracked in 1991. Opelka hit 43 aces in each of his semi-final and final wins last year.

• Milos Raonic is undefeated at the event, having won the title three straight times between 2011 and 2013, when it was held in San Jose. The No. 2-seeded Canadian comes to New York off of another quarter-final run at the Australian Open. Raonic has made the quarter-finals or better in in five of the last six years.

• Former World No. 8 Jack Sock has a wild card, and will play his first ATP Tour singles event since Laver Cup last year. Sock, who missed six months of last year after surgery, has been unranked since 4 November 2019.
