Church activity a growing event

Most residents of Aurora are familiar by now with "The Fall Event" at the Aurora United Church. This is an annual fundraising event that raises thousands of dollars. Whether you bid for some great items in the silent bid room, or buy tickets for prizes in the alternate bid room or simply purchase some goodies off the bake table or an item in the garage sale portion (I got a terrific whipped cream maker for a dollar a few years ago), this is one of the benchmark LETTERS TO THE EDITOR events in our town at this time of year. Spectacular colour and lighting brought audible gasps from a crowd estimated at close to 40,000 Saturday night as Aurora's annual Parade Under The Stars hit the streets. The weather behaved itself, and both participants and spectators appeared comfortable throughout the duration of the parade. The Auroran's cameras caught a few of the more colourful displays in the parade. Above, top, the Central York Fire Services had an effective fire prevention float, while Santa Claus, centre, was, as usual, the star of the show. Below, Supreme Collision hockey players were aboard a very colourful float of lollipops and candy. Above right, Donna Ryan struts her stuff with a flaming baton as she entertained the large crowd, while Shoppers Drug Mart's huge inflatable snowman caught the attention of everyone. Organizers once again maintained the parade is one of the best in Ontario and thousands of people appeared to agree.
