QUEENSLAND LOCAL STUDIES GROUP SEMINAR/ MEETING Welcome Jenny Hayne, Sunshine Coast Heritage Library Supervisor History of Bankfoot house Heritage Precinct James Abernethy - Cultural Heritage Officer - Sunshine Coast Council • Interpretive plan was a whole of site restoration project completed in 2018 for the 150th anniversary. • Closed collection with a purpose-built archive housing a variety of media including photographs, digital and museum memorabilia. • 400% increase in visitation within the past 12 months. • Within Bankfoot house each room acts as a chapter book in the interpretation of the space. Tour of Bankfoot House Heritage Precinct James Abernethy - Cultural Heritage Officer - Sunshine Coast Council Port to Port: Coastal Shipping in 19th and 20th Century Australia Christina Ealing-Godbold, Senior Research Librarian & Kirsten Perris Library Technician, State Library of Queensland • Colonial transport in Australia relied on ships to travel between the settlements which were mostly coastal. • Railway infrastructure developed inland from ports • Research interests link into individual and family immigration through passenger lists on coastal ships, ship or boat histories and company histories. • Competition was fierce with travel times and comforts advertised regularly • Handouts available on the Queensland Local Studies Group page Reading of Kathleen McArthur’s Lunch Hour Theatre Scripts, stories about the Beerburrum Soldier Settlement by Sunshine Coast Heritage Library team. • Thank you, Karen and Jenny, for the animated and educational reading of the script. • The McArthur Lunch Hour Theatre Scripts are held at the Heritage Unit Nambour. Round Table Focusing on projects at the local and regional level linking to Queensland history, communities and place. Meeting closed 3:00pm

Gympie Regional Libraries • 1st official NADOC week celebration was a great success. • Recent issues with the building (hailstorm & asbestos) used as an opportunity to revamp the library and upgrade to RFID. • Local history talks in the library & off site including the Walk and Talk on the main street of Gympie. • Undertaking research on hotels and theatres in the area with an increase in the use of photos and stories from the collection • Voices of the Valley: Oral history

Morton Bay • Remembrance Day: Peter Dunn talk was well attended with 71 attendees • White gloves: on the road • Memory lounge trial • Dementia friendly robot meeting • Disused WWII hanger has been identified and is currently going through the process of being recognised by council.

Brisbane City Archive • Brisbane Image upgrade • Discussions in process for a curated image collection for Brisbane Images with the intention of increasing accessibility. • Street naming resources & talks compatibility with house history resources discussed.

State Library of Queensland • Who’s your Mob Trove session • Webinar to Regional Librarians on finding Australian bdms outside of registry dates • Coastal shipping at Maritime museum • Shipping & immigration: The Basics onsite talk. • Exhibitions: Meet me at the Paragon & Jarjum Stories have opened to positive response • Oral history conference held at State Library 11 October • Volunteer indexes o Update of Col Sec material relating to Moreton Bay. Main run, apart from special bundles – last reels are now being worked on. New material goes up on State Library’s website as volunteers finish a reel. First 14 reels have been digitised but no date as to when available online. o NAA shipping J715 Brisbane inwards 1852-1964. ▪ All the Customs House records of ships indexed by personal names have had the page numbers of the ships listed. ▪ After 1899, ships’ lists are listed by page numbers for each ship. ▪ ships’ lists are currently up to 1914

Sunshine Coast Heritage Library • Rehousing of the Sunny Brae Hospital material including case records, maternity records and daily ledgers. • The family has provided personal records including photographs from infants born at the hospital and as they grew up. • Digitisation duty of care • Thank you to Di Warner who has retired this year and is enjoying North Tasmania.
