FILE NO. 031077 RESOLUTION NO. -_4~L-+'1_-~O'.-oL3 _ 1 [Commendation - Leslie Caron.] 2 3 Resolution commending Leslie Caron for her six decades of outstanding achievement 4 in the theatre and feature films and proclaiming June so", 2003 as "Leslie Caron Day" 5 in the City and County of San Francisco. 6 7 WHEREAS, Leslie Caron was born in Paris to a French father, a chemist, and an 8 American-born mother, a former dancer; and 9 WHEREAS, Ms. Caron took up ballet at the age of ten and at the age of sixteen was 10 dancing with Roland Petit's Ballets des Champs Elysees when she was seen by Gene Kelly 11 who later chose her as his co-star in the movie "An American in Paris"; and, 12 WHEREAS, The film launched her on a starring career in MGM musicals, in which she 13 demonstrated natural charm, a fetching gamine personality and graceful dancing; and, 14 WHEREAS, Ms. Caron continued on with her work to appear on the stage, on 15 Broadway, in London, and in Paris; and, 161 WHEREAS, Ms. Caron gradually broadened her range to include serious drama as 17 well as light films and scored a personal triumph as a dramatic actress in the British film "The 18 L-Shaped Room" in 1962 when she won her second British Film Academy Award for her 19 performance in that film; and, 20 WHEREAS, Ms. Caron's six-decade career includes more than seventy films in both 21 English and French, including the recent "Chocolat," and the upcoming "Le Divorce" which is 22 scheduled for release next month; now, therefore, be it 23 RESOLVED, That the Board of Supervisors of the City and County of San Francisco 24 does hereby commend Ms. Leslie Caron for her six decades of outstanding achievement in 25 the theatre and feature films; and, be it Supervisor Newsom BOARD OF SUPERVISORS Page 1 6/10/03 1 FURTHER RESOLVED, That the Board of Supervisors does hereby proclaim Monday, th 2 June 30 , 2003 as "Leslie Caron Day" in the City and County of San Francisco. 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 I 25 Supervisor Newsom BOARD OF SUPERVISORS Page 2 6/10/03 City Hall City and County of San Francisco I Dr. Carlton B.
