Wink, University of Braunschweig The Genus Nocardiopsis To the genus Nocardiopsis belong 19 species Nocardiopsis aegyptica, alba, alkaliphila, composta, dassonvillei, exhalans, halophila, halotolerans, kunsanensis, listeri, lucentensis, metallicus, prasina, salina, synnemataforans, trehalosi, tropica, umidischolae and xinjiangensis. Many other species have been transferred to the genus Saccharothrix on chemotaxonomic reasons. Substrate mycelium is well developed, and hyphae are long and densly branched; fragmentation into coccoid and bacillary elements may occur. Aerial mycelium is usually well developed and abundant. Aerial hyphae completely fragment into spores of various lengths. Growth temperature is 10-45°C. The cell wall contains meso-diaminopimelic acid but no characteristic sugars or other amino acids. Mycolic acids are absent. Menaquinones typically contain 9 or 10 isoprene units (MK-9, MK-10). The major fatty acids are 15 : 0 iso, 15 : 0 anteiso, 16 : 0 iso, 16 : 0, 17 : 0 anteiso and 18 : 0. Type species is Nocardiopsis dassonvillei. Lit.: Meyer, J. 1976 Nocardiopsis, a new genus of the order Actinomycetales. Int. J. Syst. Bacteriol. 26: 487-493 Copyright: PD Dr. Joachim M.
