Conclusion: The results showed positive correlation between the %glucose solution and the cortisol level, as well as the incubation time and the cortisol level as reported previously in other model systems. -

It was evaluated and compared with individual species and compared same in each study area. The samples were collected on both the rainy and summer from five sites as the selected rivers of Kalakkad Mudanthurai Tiger Reserve (KMTR) region (Kallar, Karaiyar, Manimuthar, Ramanathi) and other one at Kalikesam, Kanyakumari district). Their collected fish samples of morphometric characters are differentiated by various standard analyses of difference were carried out to examine the implication of morphometric variations among populations. The species wise and population wise descriptive statistics viz., minimum, maximum, mean, standard deviation; the coefficient of variation (CV) of all morphometric traits, the multivariate coefficient of variation (CVp) and the Principle Component Analysis were carried out. The detected phenotypical divergence between Devario aequipinnatus specimens revealed the fact of existing of five morphologically separated stocks within the samples may imply as a possibility a relationship among the extent of phenotypic heterogeneity and the geographic distance, shows limited combine into one among the populations. -

Indian Journal of Science, 2014, 10(24), 47-52 ABSTRACT Length-weight relationship (LWR) and condition factor (K) in ornamental hill stream fish Devario aequipinnatus were investigated from Mamulu hill stream in Sohra, Meghalaya. The analysis of this fish species was based on 769 specimens (males 48% and females 52%) ranging in size from 4.7 cm to 11.2 cm and weight from 0.66 gm to 12.1 gm collected from March 2012 to February 2013. The value of the exponent ‘b’ in the LWR varied between 2.14 and 2.95. This shows that the species exhibit negative allometric growth pattern in their natural habitat. Studies on seasonal changes in K have shown that it is highest during monsoon with values of 0.954, 0.956 and 0.955 in male, female and pooled sexes (male and female) respectively. -
Fish Germplasm Diversity and Their Conservation Status of River Kaldia in Lower Brahmaputra Valley of Assam, India

Department of Zoology, Bajali College, Pathsala, Barpeta, Assam - 781325, India *Corresponding Author E-mail: [email protected] ABSTRACT The present study was done on the basis of a preliminary survey conducted during May, 2012 to April, 2014 for two consecutive year in the Kaldia river of Barpeta district in lower Brahmaputra valley of Assam, India to assess the diversity of fish germplasm and their conservation status on the river. Findings revealed that the occurrence of 116 indigenous freshwater fish species from 9 orders, 31 families and 72 genera. Order Cypriniformes was the most dominant with 55 species followed by Siluriformes, Perciformes, Osteoglossiformes, Clupeiformes, Anguilliformes, Cyprinodontiformes, Symbranchiformes and Tetradontiformes. Among the families recorded, cyprinidae was the most dominant. Result of the present study showed that 50 species common, 48 species scanty and 18 species were found rare in the area. Among the collected ichthyofauna 1(0.86%) species are endangered, 4 (3.45%) species are vulnerable, 10 (8.62%) species are near threatened, 94 (81.03%) least concern, 5 (4.31%) data deficient, 2 (1.72%) not evaluated as per IUCN (2013.2). Whereas 5 (4.31%) species are endangered, 22 (18.96%) species are vulnerable, 37 (31.89%) species are lower risk near threatened, 8 (6.89%) are lower risk and least concern, 1 (0.86%) is data deficient, 1 (0.86%) is critically endangered and 42 (36.21%) are not evaluated according to CAMP status(1998). -

Brain, pituitary, gill, heart, liver, stomach, kidney, spleen, muscle and gonad tissues were analyzed from both male and female adult yellow perch for sex-specific tissue expression. The full length cDNA of yellow perch PRL consists of 2306 bp and PRL expression was highest in the yellow perch pituitary with low to moderate expression in other tissues including brain, gill and post-vitellogenic oocytes. The full length cDNA of yellow perch SL consists of 1589 bp and SL expression was highest in the yellow perch pituitary with low to moderate expression in other tissues including brain, gill, liver, stomach, spleen and kidney. The full length cDNA of yellow perch IGF-Ib consists of 814 bp and tissue expression analysis of yellow perch IGF-I revealed a second yellow perch transcript (IGF-Ia) that is 81 nucleotides smaller. Both IGF-Ib and IGF- Ia had the greatest expression in liver tissue with moderate expression in brain, spleen and kidney tissues of both sexes. -
