October 28, 2012 Parish Mission Statement Dear Parishioners, The Peace of Christ calls us to create a Today is Priesthood Sunday. At our rectory on Humboldt Street, we Christian Community where God is found are blessed to have three continents represented, what with our seminarian, in the beauty and joy of our worship; in the Erick Viloria, from Colombia in South America and Fr. Thirtieth Sunday in Ordinary Time Page Three Neumann School News

Last week our students enjoyed a "Read Across The School Day," a day focused on reading and reading re- lated activities. Students worked with their prayer part- ners across grade levels on their reading in age appro- priate activities. Our Kindergarten and First grade classes visited Gro-Moore Farms for an informative and fun field trip. The children enjoyed feeding the goats, learning about the vegetables, going on a tractor ride, exploring the haunted house and picking a pumpkin. A portion of the pro- ceeds will go to the school. Wednesday, October,31, is All Hallows’ Eve (Halloween), the beginning of the three Catholic “Days of the Dead” (Halloween, All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day). Perhaps, a nice practice to establish in your fam- ily would be to keep your jack-o-lantern lit for three days to honor the saints and our beloved dead Families can choose any day in November to St. John Neumann School honor their beloved dead by visiting their grave. Bring Veterans’ Day Prayer Service a bunch of marigolds—they symbolize affection, pain Friday, November 9 and grief—then pray the Lord’s Prayer together. 1:30 PM

All parishioners of Peace of Christ Parish are cor- dially invited to attend St. John Neumann’s Veterans’ Day Prayer Service. Come experience this special time as our school honors veterans for their service. Please join us afterward in the Alumni Room for coffee and fel- lowship. Enter through the front door of the school to be “buzzed” in and you will be directed to the Gymnasium where the Prayer Service will be held. In the midst of our busy, complicated lives there is a place where we can again see through the eyes of a child, that place is St. John Neumann. We welcome you to share in this special, prayerful time with us! All Are Welcome!

Parish Joining Rochester ACTS Rochester Alliance of Communities Transforming Society (Rochester ACTS) is a non-partisan, faith-based community organization of urban and suburban congregations. Since Oct 2011 the parish has been participating on the organizing committee formed by the Greater Roch- ester Community of Churches (GRCC) as a strategy for change. Rochester ACTS is its outcome. Peace of Christ is joining as a charter member of the first Board commencing in November. The heart of community organizing lies in individuals, congregations, and other organizations working to- gether to address issues that affect their daily lives and build community power. At its core, community organizing means that community members identify problems and seek solutions to these problems by organizing people, power and resources. Rochester ACTS organizes to empower ordinary people to effectively participate in the political, environ- mental, social and economic decisions affecting their lives. The diverse members of Rochester ACTS apply their faith and values to the pursuit of equal opportunity for all, shared abundance, and stronger, more prosperous com- munities. Rochester ACTS is an affiliate of Gamaliel network of faith-based community organizations which has mem- ber affiliates in 18 U.S. states, South Africa and the United Kingdom. Currently in NY State there are Gamaliel affili- ates in Buffalo, Niagara Falls, Syracuse, and Long Island. The Social Ministry Committee will be the conduit for Rochester ACTS and will work in partnership with the Peace and Justice Committee, and the Adult Faith Formation Committee. What goes together better than Thanksgiving and pies? The Brighton Churches Habitat Coalition is again this season offering pies from Kelly’s Farm Market for your holiday celebrations. Starting next week members of the Social Ministry Committee of Peace of Christ will be taking orders for holiday pies after Mass and at coffee hours. These extra deep 10” fruit pies will arrive just in time for Thanksgiving week celebrations. Kelly’s grows the fruit, and makes each pie from scratch and without preservatives. Each pie weighs approx. 4.5 lbs. and will provide 8 to 10 generous servings. They freeze well, so consider ordering for both Thanksgiving and Christmas! Thank you for supporting Habitat for Humanity through this fundraiser. You are making a difference in the lives of many—one family at a time. * Order forms are available at the entrances of each church * Pies are $15.00/$11.50 each, Kelly’s regular retail price * All orders must be pre-paid — deadline is Thursday November 15 2012.
