2 From the Desk of Publicis Groupe’s Chief Diversity Officer

Sandra Sims-Williams Chief Diversity Officer

Here we are in the fall season and we have just a couple more months to go before the end of the year. I hope each and every one of you had an enjoyable summer with time to re-energize and think about what you might want to accomplish between now and the end of the year. In what is typically a very busy time of year, please be sure to prioritize self-care so that you can be your very best in both your professional and personal lives.

As I speak about accomplishments in this home stretch, I am particularly pleased to announce that my team hosted Publicis Groupe’s annual CEO Roundtable in New York earlier this month. This roundtable provides a forum for our U.S.-based CEOs to learn from external consultants and from one another on topics related to diversity and inclusion. This year’s session packed a punch as we welcomed both former Attorney General of the United States Eric Holder and Dr. Ramesh Srinivasan. Now in private practice, Eric Holder engaged in a fireside chat with me and Deputy , John Spitzig. Our CEOs had a chance to hear from Eric Holder with his views on diversity and inclusion and how company leaders can turbocharge their commitment to D&I for the benefit of their talent, their business, and the business of their clients.

Following our fireside chat with Eric Holder, we had an opportunity to hear from Dr. Ramesh Srinivasan who has expertise in the intersection between D&I and artificial intelligence (AI). I first had a chance to hear Dr. Srinivasan speak at the Odyssey business retreat in 2016 and was immediately captured by his passion for the subject and his wealth of knowledge as it relates to how unconscious bias can be coded into the underlying algorithms that fuel artificial intelligence. All this was good information to have as Publicis Groupe continues to build Marcel and our CEOs continue to be challenged with how AI will impact our business.

In closing, I would like to remind you that aside from all the demands on your time at work and at home, keep in mind that our business resource groups have lots of exciting and interesting programs being offered across the country leading up to the end of the year. If you are not yet a part of a distribution list, I invite you to curate your own experience by visiting our BRG portal here: https://tinyurl.com/ybq27hlv and opting in. And if you’re looking for some additional professional development opportunities to help round your year, please take a look at the next page.

Warm regards, Sandra

The Faces of Advertising’s Future

The Multicultural Advertising Intern Program (MAIP), is an initiative of the Association of Accredited Advertising Agencies (4As) that sources top talent from colleges, universities, and portfolio schools across the country to partake in immersive agency experiences. Known as MAIP Fellows, program participants gain real-world work experience, on-the-job training, and access to a network of peers and established industry professionals.

Publicis Groupe agencies have a strong tradition of supporting MAIP, and 2018 has been no exception. Agencies across all four of Publicis Groupe’s solution hubs were home to 42 MAIP interns.

2018 marked the first year Publicis Groupe offered a concierge service to its resident MAIP Fellows as a way to help better familiarize them with our company, its offerings, and its people. Together, Joanna Lane (Re:Sources), Karla Talley (Digitas), Mackenzie Hollis (Publicis Health), and Robert Camilleri (Re:Sources) made themselves available to answer questions about our industry, Publicis Groupe, and career opportunities within our agencies and to facilitate introductions to various professionals across the network for informational chats.

Here, in their own words, are testimonials from some of this year’s MAIP Fellows:

“The best part of my mentorship was working with like-minded individuals that made me feel comfortable with who I am as a creative. I enjoyed every learning experience and [piece of] advice. As I move on from this internship, I will not only take the heartfelt talks with my mentors, but I will use them as an example to be a quality leader when I must rise to the occasion. Thank you for this experience. It was not only such a great opportunity but it was a whole level of confirmation that I am where I belong.”

“I have absolutely loved my experience this past summer. I would say the best aspect of this internship was being treated like an important member of every team and being included in all of the company’s activities. Presenting our internship project was probably the most rewarding part of this summer—especially since we were able to show our managers what we’ve learned these past 6 weeks. The most valuable experiences I’ll forever hold with me are the relationships and memories I’ve created during my time here.”

“The best aspect of my internship is a combination of the amazing staff I was able to work with and the work I have been able to do. Everyone was so willing to bring me along with them to meetings regardless [of whether] I was on their team or not. The community support allowed me to really grow professionally. Along with that, my team didn’t treat me like an intern; instead I was doing associate level work. This internship experience has been the best one I have had.”

Publicis Health Partners with National Alliance on Mental Illness to Work to End Stigma

Every year, Publicis Health partners with a nonprofit, corporate social responsibility client to create the cornerstone of the Publicis Health internship program—the end-of-summer client-pitch project. This year, we partnered with the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI). This client relationship was spearheaded by Saatchi & Saatchi Wellness.

Mental health conditions are incredibly prevalent in the age demographic of our intern class. In teens and young adults, 1 in 5 suffers from a mental health condition. Half of those began developing conditions by the age of 18, and three quarters by the age of 24. With this information, and in light of By Lori DePace the highly publicized suicides of Kate Spade and Anthony Bourdain at the Publicis Health beginning of summer, we knew mental health was an important conversation to have with our intern class and a topic they could rally behind.

Our 2018 summer intern class included more than 80 interns who were placed into cross-departmental, cross- regional teams of 10. They were asked to create a national campaign aimed at high school and college-aged students to work toward the de-stigmatization of mental illness. Then, at the end of the summer, the intern teams pitched the campaign to NAMI and senior leaders within Publicis Health. The intern groups worked tirelessly over their internship to research, ideate, and create moving and impactful campaigns. They were given essential touchstones—including creative advisor mentors who had to sign off on their creative, a Q&A with NAMI, and a pitch run-through with the head of new business at Saatchi & Saatchi Wellness.

The excitement and support from those in our network were palpable. On July 31, final presentations were held in New York City. Representatives from NAMI, alongside senior PH leadership, were blown away by the work our interns created and the research and dedication they put into building their campaigns.

We are proud of our 2018 intern class and the best-in-class internship program we’ve cultivated over the years. In fact, Publicis Health was recently recognized by WayUp as one of the Top 100 Internship Programs in America.

We look forward to continuing our relationship with NAMI, and congratulations to the 2018 Publicis Health intern class!

BBRG House Party All Under One Roof On any given day, the 21st floor common space of the Leo Burnett Building in Chicago houses a scene of Publicis employees casually debriefing after the workday has ended or finding some quiet time to diligently finish projects against a sunny backdrop of the cityscape. On August 9, 2018, that warm and inviting energy was only magnified as over 100 Black employees across all of Publicis Groupe Chicago flowed into the common area for an evening of community and good times.

Physically aligning with Publicis’ Power of One mantra has proved beneficial in many ways. Most recently, moving Publicis brands into the same buildings across the country has led to many anticipatory “When do you move into the building?” Skype pings. So the Groupe’s Black BRG leaders thought, “Now that we are under one roof, we should create a space for our members By Xenecia Farrell to meet and commune.” Thus, the Black BRG Mixer was born from this Spark common desire for connection among Black employees.

The goal of this event was not only to mix and mingle among ourselves, but to welcome allies and senior leadership to experience the feeling of community and energy that we can all create once we work together to truly exemplify the Power of One. During the event, allies and members alike indulged in refreshments and interesting conversation. The group attendance exceeded expectations—from senior to junior level and employees with 3 months to 20 years of experience. Publicis Groupe Chief Inclusion Experiences Officer Renetta McCann showed her support and a dance move or two! Feedback from the event was a resounding, “We should do more of these!”

Leaders from Spark’s Spark Noir, Digitas’ ONYX, Starcom’s B.A.S.E., and Leo Burnett’s Shades all echoed this sentiment in expressing a commitment to planning more joint programming and enthusiasm for building engagement among the brands in 2019.

With continued support from senior leadership, our vision is to host the BBRG Mixer annually. Keep your eyes and ears out for word on joint Black History Month events in 2019. With this group, they’re sure to be just as amazing.

10th Anniversary of Starcom Serves Every summer for the last ten years, hundreds of Starcom U.S. employees have dedicated a day to volunteer in the local community in an event we call “Starcom Serves.” Participation grows every year and includes offices across the country from New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, and Detroit. Our 10th- anniversary event was the biggest yet with over 800 volunteers participating in a range of activities that included beautifying local parks and schools and mentoring school age kids at nearby summer camps.

As the event expands in size, so do the logistics and management of such a complex operation. From the “core” planning team to the site leader volunteers, Starcom employees go above and beyond their day to day to help orchestrate this powerful event—a true human experience.

By Chelsie Koenig and Andrea Pohlman In recent years, we’ve collaborated with Business Resource Groups (BRGs) to Starcom cosponsor sites that align with their mission. Not only has this allowed BRGs an extra opportunity to connect with members in a meaningful way, but it also provides Starcom Serves with passionate and invested site leaders who contribute to the success of our annual service day.

Here is what some of our local BRG leads had to say about their partnership with Starcom Serves this year.

“The Starcom Serves- and Égalité-sponsored site is a unique opportunity for the Groupe employees to come together to support and give back to the LGBTQ+ community, no matter how you identify. The fact that this collaboration originated because our Groupe employees asked for an LGBTQ+-specific site is amazing within itself. It speaks to our community that we are seen, heard, and encouraged to bring our full selves to work each day. Starcom Serves is an initiative that Égalité looks forward to every year.” Maranda Gorr-Diaz, Égalité

“Having a BASE-sponsored site for Starcom Serves this year was incredible. We had the opportunity to find a site that truly has an impact on the Black community in Chicago: Chicago Youth Programs. We believe it is so important for us to make sure we’re doing our part in all communities. We’re looking forward to future years of Starcom Serves where we can continue to ensure we’re serving those underserved communities through a BASE-sponsored site.” Tyler Faush, BASE

Starcom employees donated nearly 5,000 hours of their time for this event, which embodies the spirit of the Human Experience Company. It is frequently referenced as employees’ favorite event in culture surveys and is a special occasion when every employee across disciplines and clients gets a chance to work together. We are looking forward to the next 10 years!

Starcom Serves is made possible thanks to the Company’s donation of more than $40,000 in cash and supplies and nearly $30,000 in logistics necessary to support and enable employee participation.

The Starcom Serves SLC sponsor is Kim Colweck. Chicago leads are Chelsie Koenig and Andrea Pohlman, New York lead is Maggie Diemunsch, Los Angeles lead is Kirsten Wolf, and Detroit lead is Vickie Southworth.

I believe a sense of community is one of the most important parts of a continuing BRG at Publicis Groupe. In our second year of operation, building that community was one of the most important things for us and certainly a focal point of development for the group.

In the beginning of 2018, we announced our Chicago-area board members, who would champion the success of PubVets, spread awareness, and encourage veteran inclusion at various Publicis Groupe agencies, and we found opportunities to conduct recruiting specifically to a veteran audience.

Identifying Publicis Groupe as an employer of choice for military veterans and their allies also continues to be one of the most important things for the group as we develop in size and geographical presence. Our recent partnership with Project Relo, which conducts leadership and veteran advocacy training across a 4-day period on U.S military bases, certainly helps position ourselves in Curtis Wagner Starcom, Chicago this way. Please contact me if anyone from your agency would be interested PubVets Founder and National Lead in going on an upcoming mission with Project Relo. For my part, I can be reached at: [email protected]

Interested in getting involved with PubVets? We are currently looking for additional board members in both Seattle & New York to continue growing the group and to develop our voice as an employer of choice for veterans in those areas. Please reach out to [email protected] for more information about how to become a board member in your area.

As 2018 comes to a close, planning for PubVets events is wrapping up as we get ready for Veteran’s Day 2018 panel discussions and military trivia nights. We will be concluding the year with our annual Toys for Tots Drive.

Thanks to the leadership of Joanna Lane, the VivaMama national board has grown into an incredible group of 19 passionate mamas representing 8 regions nationwide. Joanna spearheaded the groundbreaking Bright Horizons back- up care program for child and eldercare and grew VivaMama from nothing to everything. Thank you, Joanna! You will be missed.

My name is Sarah Parsa Nguyen and I am humbled to be the new VivaMama National Lead. Together, with the leadership, passion, courage, and collaboration of VM National Board Members, we will take VivaMama to the next level. Together, we will RoaR!

This summer, we determined that VivaMama’s number-one priority is to build communities of mothers and allies. We believe that by encouraging transparent conversations, creating friendships, and allowing people to be 100% themselves, Sarah Parsa Nguyen without apologizing, we can help move the needle. Through community-building Saatchi & Saatchi, Los Angeles and meaningful programs, we hope to create a renewed sense of purpose for National Lead mothers in the workplace.

In addition, we are discussing several initiatives that are critical to a mother’s success in the workplace. These programs include, but are not limited to, flexible work conditions, off- and on-ramping programs for parental leave, mentor programs for new moms, Milk Stork program to support breastfeeding mothers, Mothers Room improvements, community partnerships, and so much more.

A huge thank-you to Jennifer Storch and team, who passionately pursued a partnership with the very stylish STATE Bags and launched this national initiative in time for back to school. “Buy a STATE Bag and give a kid a real backpack.” For more information, check out #givebackpack

And Kudos to Nupur Raganath for her inspiring opinion piece on the importance (and necessity) of workplace flexibility! https://www.prweek.com/article/1488234/why-workplace-flexibility-forward

VM Board Members when asked about Impact: “I want moms to know that they’re not alone and that they don’t have to feel forced to choose their kids or their career. (I felt that way.) My passion is around motivating the business to see value in changes that allow us to better leverage amazing talent.”

“I would love to see more embracing of parents and ideally make MSL/Publicis known as a good place for parents to work.”

VivaTech has been busy in this quarter. In fact, we had some “badass” work coming out of VivaTech—NY. Marcela Bonancio and Kenisa Polanco of Starcom created a video series called “#badass. They interviewed three women inside the Publicis Groupe holding C-level titles, discussing each one’s career journey and asking those women to share any advice. Marcela and Kensia hosted a series of lunchtime viewings of the video, and the response has been wonderful. You might even say they’re about to go viral. We’ve invited Marcela and Kenisa to share their experiences of creating Season 1 of a truly game-changing experience.

10 Things We Didn’t Know about Three of the Most Powerful Women Inside Publicis Groupe By Marcela Bonancio and Kenisa Polanco These past few months, we have had the privilege to interview three #badass Kelly Kokonas women inside Publicis Groupe holding C-level titles. We’re so proud to work Starcom, Chicago in an organization that is “breaking the glass ceiling,” and these women are VivaTech National Co-Lead just three of the many who hold some of the most senior roles within Publicis Groupe. Below are ten lessons we learned from Alex, Jodi, and Lisa. 1. Embrace yourself. Authenticity is what makes you stand out from the crowd. Voice up: Make your voice heard, contribute, and always keep true to yourself. 2. The idea of work-life balance is not defi ned by the time they spend either at work or with their families at home, but is attached to the impact and quality time they have with their families and kids. Vacation is a “norm” and dedicating their time to family and kids is a priority inside their busy agenda. Be present wherever you are (work or home). 3. They’re just like us! One of the women started her career delivering newspapers at a very young age, followed by several bartending and waitressing jobs. If that sounds like your past, we’re here to let you know you, too, have the chance to one day be a CEO. Another changed her career from being a teacher to work in Media, and another transitioned from accounting to Media. So if you’re feeling lost in your career, understand that you also can change at any Stacey McKeever point of your life and one day become a CEO, too. Team One VivaTech National Co-Lead 4. They feel vulnerable, just like us, but they dive deep into their fears until the unknown is no longer a threat to them. They’re constantly learning and reaching out for more. 5. They actually did not dream of one day becoming a CEO. When they started their careers, however, they showed a constant dedication to their teams and clients. They focus on doing the best job they can while keeping their teams motivated, as well as the rest of us, and keeping clients satisfi ed. 6. Yeah! They say they don’t, but they really do live a celebrity lifestyle! From dinners with Hilary Clinton to chartered travels to exclusive hotels 27 Business Resource Group (BRG) Updates

and VIP Springsteen concert experiences, these women have done it all. And it sounds pretty amazing to most of us, doesn’t it? Just one more reason for you to dream of someday having a CEO’s title! 7. With their super-busy agendas, they are indeed masters in productivity. Between CEO meetings, company events, family, and kids, they still manage to have what we call “side jobs”—from singing karaoke to getting involved in many industry and charity boards. Above all, they are volunteers using their influence to positively impact their industry and community. It definitely feels really good to know that you have the power to change the narrative on some of the biggest problems of today’s world. 8. Each of these #badass women are extremely approachable and personable, and they change the energy inside any room they enter, which makes us think the higher up in title you are, the less your technical skills will matter. It is your soft skills that will be the key to lead and motivate teams across their agencies and the world. Marcela Bonancio Starcom 9. These #badass women are fearless when it comes to getting their seat at the table and being heard. They are hardworking and dedicated, but they also have their teams and clients’ best interests top of mind. 10. They take care of themselves—going a couple of times a week to the gym to get strength and energy, using technology to improve their life quality, or just enjoying a vodka on ice with a slice of orange at the end of the day. Thanks for the recipe, Lisa! Cheers! Big thanks to Lisa Donohue, Jodi Robinson, and Alex Von Plato who generously gave of their time for this project. It was an honor, and we had a blast getting a taste of the life of a CEO.
