Evanston Sports Performance of the Year Awards 2015 E.S.P.Y. Awards EVANSTON SPORTS PERFORMANCE OF THE YEAR—NOMINEES WINNERS HIGHLIGHTED IN YELLOW Wildkit Spirit ESPY Award This award is presented to the ETHS senior fan or fans voted by seniors to have the most dedication to school spirit and sportsmanship in a given year. a) Claudia Africano; b) Erica Gardner; c) Quinn Mannard; d) Alante Massie; e) Reggie Murphy Best Moment ESPY Award This award recognizes the best moment or series of moments occurring in an ETHS sporting event or season at the varsity level. Voted by seniors as the most remarkable, compelling or entertaining in a given year. Boys Basketball vs Maine South TWICE: KITS beat the Hawks for the first time since 2011 not once but twice at home with the first 58-51 victory coming on LIVE TV for the CSL South Championship and the second 58-53 win for the Regional Championship. Girls Basketball vs Loyola, Regional Champions: Regulation coast-to-coast buzzer beater by Leighah Wool sent KITS to 47-41 OT victory over Loyola for Regional Championship despite trailing Ramblers entire game. Football vs Crete-Monee: At the game dedicated to Coach Steve King, Defensive Coordinator who passed away from a heart attack earlier in the summer, KITS defense causes fumble by Crete QB and return it 50 yards for a TD in 4th Q to give ETHS 14-7 victory over the Warriors. Girls Gymnastics renames Invite to honor Coach Jones: With complete surprise to retiring Head Girls Gymnastics Coach, Chester Jones, Vicki Munch announces the Munch/Brinkworth Invitational will be renamed the Chester Jones Invitational in honor of Coach Jones’ incredible 23-year history as head coach at ETHS. Boys Lacrosse vs Schaumburg: In sudden death OT, Ethan Stein slams home a missed goal rebound to defeat the Saxons 8-7 and advance to the Sweet 16 of the State Playoffs. Girls Track & Field State Meet: Remy Amarteifio capped off an incredible high school career with a 3rd Place finish with a 14.59 in the 110-m High Hurdles at the State Finals. Wrestling Regional Championship: With all 14 wrestlers advancing to the medal rounds, the KITS won ELEVEN of their final bouts and advanced 13 wrestlers to Sectionals en route to a dominating 243.5-194.5 conquest over runner-up Notre Dame in the 10-team field to win their first Regional Championship since 2007. All Seniors VOTE on H.A.C. between 5/26– 5/27 (ends at 5pm) 2015 E.S.P.Y. Awards EVANSTON SPORTS PERFORMANCE OF THE YEAR—NOMINEES Best Game/Contest ESPY Award This award is presented to the Evanston Varsity team/athlete responsible for the best single game/contest. Badminton Sectional Champions: KITS won their first Sectional Championship since 2003 thanks to 1st and 2nd place finishes in singles and 2nd and 4th place finishes in doubles. Baseball vs Deerfield: With a 12-game win streak and the CSL South conference race on the line, KITS claw back from 4-0 deficit to defeat Deerfield 10-6 in 9 innings to carry them to first CSL South title since 1990. Girls Basketball: After losing to Glenbrook South twice in the regular season, the KITS beat the Titans in FOUR OT’s 62-57 at Glenbrook South to advance to the IHSA Sweet 16 Sectional Championship. Boys Lacrosse vs Glenbrook North: Thanks to Marcello Porter-Dunning’s 16 saves and Sam Knepper’s 1 goal and 5 assists, KITS knocked off #3 ranked Glenbrook North 6-5 at Lazier Field to move them into Top 10. Girls Lacrosse vs Glenbrook North: KITS knocked off #12 Spartans 6-5 in OT in 2nd round of the State Playoffs to advance to the Sweet 16 for the first time since 2008. Boys Soccer vs New Trier: Oli Jacques game winning goal with 3:03 left to play at New Trier gave KITS 2-1 victory and retained possession of the Fire Hydrant. Boys Swimming & Diving Sectional Champions: The Kits knocked off Sectional host and #1 ranked Glenbrook South with a 302.5 – 284 point performance that also advanced all 3 relays and 12 individuals for State. Boys Track & Field Sectional Champions: Kits dominated the 16-team field with 118 points (runner-up Hersey had 67) with wins in all 3 sprint relays (inc. new ETHS and track record in 4x100 Relay), 1st-2nd finishes in the 100-m & 200-m and wins in the 400-m and Shot Put. KITS advanced 9 individuals and 3 relays to State. Girls Volleyball Regional Champions: Despite losing 1st set 25-17 and trailing 3rd set 12-3, KITS battle back to defeat Lake Park 25-16 and 27-25 in the final sets to win the Regional Championship. Wrestling vs Maine South: After falling to Maine South every season since 2004, the KITS won 10 of 14 bouts over the Hawks at ETHS for a 38-21 victory. All Seniors VOTE on H.A.C. between 5/26– 5/27 (ends at 5pm) 2015 E.S.P.Y. Awards EVANSTON SPORTS PERFORMANCE OF THE YEAR—NOMINEES Outstanding Team ESPY Award This annual award is presented to the ETHS varsity team voted by seniors to be the most outstanding in a given year. Voted on by senior athletes. Badminton: Badminton had a dual meet record of 9-2-1, won the Sectional Championship for first time since 2003, finished #20 in State and was only one of six schools in State to qualify two doubles and two singles to State. Baseball: CSL South Champions for the first time since 1990, Baseball has also already tied the ETHS record for most wins in a season with an overall record of 25-7-1 heading into the start of the IHSA State Playoffs. This year’s seniors have won 48 games over the past two years. Boys Basketball: CSL South Champions, IHSA Regional Champions with an overall 20-9 record. Combined with last year’s record, this senior class has won 41 games in two years. Girls Basketball: IHSA Regional Champions who advanced to the Sectional Championship with an overall 19-12 record. Combined with last year’s record, this senior class has won 41 games in two years. Boys Lacrosse: Finished regular season ranked #9 with overall 11-9 record and Sweet 16 appearance. This year’s seniors have won 25 games in the past two years. Boys Soccer: IHSA Regional Champions who advanced to the Sectional Finals for 2nd straight year with an overall record of 16-3-4. Combined with last year’s record, this senior class has an overall record of 33-5-9. Girls Soccer: Currently 17-5-3 heading into Tuesday’s Sectional Semifinal vs Loyola as the #3 seed in the IHSA Sectional, the KITS have only allowed two goals at home since 2013. Seniors are 36-12-3 in last 2 years. Boys Track & Field: CSL South Indoor and Outdoor Champions, IHSA Sectional Champions, Boys Track & Field heads into this weekend’s State Finals with Top 5 times in five different events and has the fastest 4 x 100 Relay time in ETHS history. Girls Water Polo: Finished season ranked #11 with an overall record of 19-10-2 and a Sweet 16 appearance. Seniors are 41-18-2 over the last two years. Wrestling: Broke the ETHS record for most dual meet wins in a season with an overall record of 32-4, won the IHSA Regional for the first time since 2007 and qualified three wrestlers to the State Finals. This year’s seniors won 63 dual meets in last two years. All Seniors VOTE on H.A.C. between 5/26– 5/27 (ends at 5pm) 2015 E.S.P.Y. Awards EVANSTON SPORTS PERFORMANCE OF THE YEAR—NOMINEES Most Improved Program ESPY Award This annual award is presented to the ETHS varsity team that has demonstrated the greatest overall improvement from the previous school year. Voted on by senior athletes. Badminton: After going 8-6-1 in dual meets the previous year and scoring 0.5 pt at State Finals for 40th place overall, Badminton had a dual meet record of 9-2-1, won the Sectional Championship for first time since 2003, finished #20 in State and was only one of six schools in State to qualify two doubles and two singles to State. Girls Lacrosse: After 10-11 record last year finishing the season ranked #26, Girls Lacrosse is 12-8 heading into their first Sweet 16 game since 2008. Girls Swimming & Diving: After failing to even qualify in any event for the IHSA State Finals for the past two years, KITS finished 14th Place at State thanks to the 3rd Place finish in the 200-yd Medley Relay. Best Example of Sportsmanship ESPY Award This annual award is presented to the ETHS varsity team or senior athlete(s) that demonstrated the best example of true sportsmanship over the course of a season or in a specific moment. Voted on by senior athletes. Malachi Adams & Reggie Murphy: Despite being one another’s fiercest competition at every meet and often trading victories over the other by .01 seconds in the 100-m dash, Reggie and Malachi have an unbelievably supportive bond and are always genuinely happy for the other’s success even when taking 2nd place. Boys/Girls Basketball Seniors: With a record number of sophomores on both the boys and girls varsity basketball teams this year, the seniors of both programs sacrificed playing time and accepted their leadership responsibility to help shape and mentor these younger players.

Miller has now been selected to the Pro Bowl seven times, and he has been chosen every year since 2014. His 14.5 sacks this season are tied for second in the NFL. The Colorado product ranks in the top five in the NFL in rushing yards, rushing average and rushing touchdowns. He currently has 991 yards and nine touchdowns through 14 games. Cornerback Chris Harris Jr., wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders and outside linebacker Bradley Chubb were all tabbed as alternates. Harris tallied three interceptions, one sack and 49 tackles during his 12 starts in 2018. In Week 7, he returned one of those picks for a touchdown. He suffered a leg injury in Week 13 against the Bengals. Sanders, who suffered an Achilles injury in practice ahead of the Broncos’ game against the 49ers, tallied 71 catches for 868 yards and four receiving touchdowns. He also ran for a touchdown and caught a touchdown this season. The Broncos placed Sanders on IR ahead of their Week 14 game.

Baseball vs Niles North: After Ben Wilson pounds a Grand Slam in the bottom of the 2nd, Charlie Maxwell follows up with the rarest of Triple Plays in the top of the 3rd as Baseball beat Niles North 16-0. Dajae Coleman jersey presentation: On Boys Basketball Senior Night, Coach Ellis and the seniors presented Evanston jersey #3 to Dajae Coleman’s mother, Tiffany Rice. Each year, the #3 jersey will be given to the player that embodies the spirit of Dajae Coleman. Football’s Tray Banks vs Niles West: In just the 2nd and 3rd quarter, Tray Banks scored in each of the three phases of football: 20-yd TD reception from Matt Little, 95-yd interception for a TD and a 75-yd kick return for a TD as the KITS beat Niles West 43-27.
