Pete to find out if El Cajon can make a 4XL T‐shirt A discussion at the next Road Captain meeting should be how to deal with a group with a trike, if the ride is going somewhere, like mountain curves, where they might slow the group down.
MULTI-WEEK MOTORCYCLE TRIP TIPS AND SUGGESTIONS FOR TWO-UP ON TWO WHEELS by Sue Malaise What works for us for 2 or more weeks
We pack for 5 days between laundering - we wear some items multiple days to keep from packing so much
Quick tips:
• Take detergent pods • Take dryer sheets cheaper than hotel prices • Plenty of quarters (or loonies and toonies in Canada) for washer and dryer • Keep first aid items easily accessible
Things to consider:
• Pack for potential climate and weather changes during your travels - i.e. cold, rain • Determine Gross Vehicle Weight Rating from weight table in Owner's Manual and also listed on the right side front downtube **See reverse side
DETERMINING WHAT TO PACK:
• First determine what non-clothing items you have decided to take such as: tools, cameras, phones, electronics, chargers, first aid, bike cover, etc.
** See attached checklist for ideas from what we use to determine to take each trip.
• Pre-pack these items to see what available room you have left for your daily wear.
Pack heavy items as low as possible
Pack rain gear- cold weather clothes easily accessible depending on the predicted weather for the day roll or fold clothes • Now you can determine what you will be able to pack for daily wear. Wearing items such as shirts and pants for multiple days helps limit the number of items you need to pack. For us that is some partial room inside the tour-pak and the luggage on top of the tour-pak
Our method of packing the luggage on top of the tour-pak:
• First jeans are folded and placed on the bottom of the luggage • Next t-shirts are rolled up from bottom to neck to avoid wrinkling at the collar • T-shirts are then placed in, separated on each side for each person • Socks and underwear are placed in the top inside liner of the luggage • Nightwear is folded and placed on top of the t-shirts • Dirty clothes are placed in the plastic clothing bags from the hotel to keep them separated Determining motorcycle Gross Vehicle Weight Rating
GVWR - wet weight (bike plus all fluids) = Max load weight (passengers plus all else)
For example our Ultra Limited is: 1360lbs gross - 889lbs wet = 471lbs
So passenger weight plus everything else shouldn't exceed 471lbs for us
So out of curiosity we weighed ourselves and everything on our checklist on our home scale to get an idea of what our total weight was.
There are also maximum weight ratios for front and rear axles
Our Front axle max weight was 500lbs and the rear was 927lbs
However we did not bother to check our loaded weights for these
And remember that the tour-pak has a weight limit listed inside the lid.
**Exceeding the weight limit on the tour-pak can significantly alter the motorcycles handling.
***Note: Please consult your Owner's Manual for your specific motorcycle application. Do not exceed recommended weight ratings for your model bike.
