A new genus and a new species from Dominican Republic Boletín de la Sociedad Entomológica Aragonesa (S.E.A.), 60: 1-12 Abstract: The genus Dominicophus n. gen. is herein described for the island of Hispaniola, in the Greater Antilles. It is represented here by two species, both restricted to caves in karstic zones of southeastern Dominican Republic: Dominicophus sheylae (Armas & Hernández-Triana, 2014) n. comb. in Samaná peninsula (homonymous Province) and Dominicophus terueli n. sp. in Parque Nacional del Este (La Altagracia Province). Both species are described and compared in detail, supported by a thorough photographic complement. Ameles paradecolor sp. n., from the Iberian Peninsula, and Ameles insularis sp. n., from the island of Mallorca, are described. A. africana Bolívar and A. modesta Bolívar are new synonyms of Ameles spallanzania Rossi; A. cypria Uvarov is a new synonym of A. heldreichi Brunner. Neotypes are designed for the following species: A. spallanzania (Rossi) and A. aegyptiaca Werner. In total 13 Mediterranean species are recognized. Each species is presented with a diagnosis, full description, distribution data and a comprehensive bibliography. A key to both males and females is provided. A cladistic analysis, using twenty-one morphological characters, revealed the mo- nophyly of the genus, where two major clades are identified: the “spallanzania” and “picteti” species groups. Finally, bio- geographic remarks based on our phylogenetic hypothesis are also provided. Key words: Mantodea, Ameles, systematics, cladistics, biogeography, Mediterranean. The analysis of b-diversity, i.e. species turnover, across space is central to a wide array of ecological and evolutionary topics, also providing critical informa- tion to conservation planning. Although dispersal limitation has been demonstrated to play an important role in determining insect community structure, very little research has been done to test whether mobility might affect the diversity distribu- tion of species across multiple spatial scales. 2. We considered orthopterans (Ensifera and Caelifera) inhabiting hay meadows to test whether species mobility modifies b-diversity patterns across three nested spa- tial scales (1-m2 plots within meadow, 1000-m2 meadows within landscape, and 19.6- km2 landscapes within a region) and along a gradient of management intensity. 3. Orthopteran community composition varied most significantly over broader spatial scales. Larger proportion of regional c-diversity was mainly composed of b-diversity at the landscape scale, whereas this proportion was smaller at the plot and meadow scale. 4. Mobility, but not management, strongly modified b-diversity patterns. Seden- tary species contributed to a greater proportion of b-diversity across all the investi- gated scales compared with mobile species. 5. Measures currently included in most agri-environment schemes have only focused on the extensive management at the field scale. -

Michele all’Adige (TN), Italy *Corresponding author e-mail: [email protected] SUMMARY - The grasshoppers (Insecta, Orthoptera) of a sub-mediterranean zone of the Trentino region (North- East Italy) - The aim of this work is to study the Orthoptera-fauna of an esalpic area, characterized by a kind of sub- mediterranean climate, situated in the souther part of the Trentino region (North-East Italy). The Authors report the results about the distribution of the species of Orthoptera (Insecta, Orthoptera) collected during two years of sampling (2003-2004) and the results of a statistical analysis of the data. To better characterize the distribution of Orthoptera within the studied territory, we have carried out a cluster analysis regarding the environments of sampling and a GLM considering several environmental variables: altitude, solar radiation, wetness index, proximity to rivers, lakes, prairies, main streets, coppice woods and high forests. We performed a Principal Components Analysis (PCA) using only the significant variables from the GLM. The collected data have been processed by the software R 2.1. (Core Team 2005) for the statistical analysis. The significant variables are basically the altitude, the solar radiation, the proximity to major roads and to the lakes. It is relevant the presence of some species such as: Anacridium aegyptium, Antaxius difformis, Oedipoda germanica, Calliptamus siciliae, Pseudoprumna baldensis. -

Figures and maps refer to those included in the catalan version. 338 PRESENTATION Catalonia is a country that is strategically located from a biogeographical point of view, a stone's throw from Mid-European and Mediterranean environments, washed by the Mediterranean, and going from a high mountain alpine environment to sub-desert steppes. In contrast to other countries, with flora and fauna composed of very few species, our nature is characterised by its great diversity and we enjoy an environment composed of very varied forms of life, adapted to quite different conditions. Our society, through its universities, institutes, administrations, specialists and nature lovers, has made a great effort to identify these species. However, a great deal of this knowledge is found in journals or books with a limited readership or dispersed in a great number of publications. They mostly concentrate on specific areas of the territory and often, the species have yet to be discovered. We need tools to facilitate the conservation and management of these species. Which are they? Where are they? How many individual members of the species are there? In which habitats? What are their needs? These are questions which are key to be able to offer the correct planning of the territory, of the natural areas and of human activities in general. Abstract: In October 2020, a male specimen of Ameles spallanzania (Rossi, 1792) was discovered in the trunk of a car in Szombathely, Western Hungary. In the preceding days the car was on Szársomlyó hill at Nagyharsány, Southern Hungary. During this time the trunk space and its objects were in direct contact with the grassland fauna of the hillside and with plants purchased in a Szombathely garden centre. It seems more likely that the discovered specimen was introduced from abroad. However, considering that the Hungarian south-facing, dry grassland slopes are climatically suitable for this species, presence-absence surveys in natu- ral habitats (especially in the hill ranges of SW-Hungary) would be important. A free parking is available in front of Campus II. The next airports are Luxembourg Findel, Frankfurt Hahn (note that this airport is closer to Trier than to Frankfurt and mainly used by Ryanair) or Saarbrücken. During weekends, a direct bus connection between the city center and campus 2 exists only for Saturdays. In this case, bus line 85 leaves the city center hourly between 10:10 a.m. and 19:10 p.m (bus station "Porta nigra"). A return to the city center is possible hourly between 09:59 a.m. and 18:59 p.m. Campus 2 can be reached earlier/later, more frequent and on Sundays by the bus line 83, bus station “Kohlenstraße”. Note that you have to calculate a ten minute walk from the bus station to campus 2. Both bus lines drive along the central train station. Jahrestagung der Deutschen Gesellschaft für Orthopterologie, DGfO) and the First European Congress on Orthoptera Conservation (Grasshopper Specialist Group, GSG). The host institution, Trier University, has a focus on humanities and social sciences. However environmental sciences are strongly represented in the Faculty of Regional and Environmental Sciences, including the Department of Biogeography.
