Tonypandy’s West End star Sophie Evans presents an evening of music and special guests to start your Christmas celebrations.

Fresh from her appearance as part of this year’s BBC Children in Need appeal, Sophie takes to the stage with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales for numbers including Make You Feel My Love, the song recently made famous by Adele.

Broadway and West End star Michael Ball joins Sophie in the studio for their first performance together - and as a festive treat, Michael sings a special arrangement of Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.

Returning to her home town of Tonypandy, Sophie also meets current pupils from her old school, Cwm Clydach Primary School; and she catches up with the talented Only Boys Aloud, who hail from across the south Wales valleys.

WELSH GREATS: ANEURIN BEVAN Tuesday, December 18, BBC One Wales, 10.35pm

In the final programme in this series of Welsh Greats, John Humphrys tells the story of Aneurin Bevan, the charismatic and controversial politician from Tredegar whose cunning and charm was instrumental in creating the National Health Service.

Born in 1897 he left school at the age of 13 and began working, like his father, at a local colliery. The programme follows his rise as an outstanding political speaker, emerging as one of the miners’ leaders during the 1926 General Strike and elected as the MP for Ebbw Vale in 1929. He married fellow Labour MP Jennie Lee and later became an outspoken critic of Winston Churchill during World War II.

After the landslide Labour victory in 1945, Bevan was appointed minister of health and became the chief architect of the NHS. But the programme shows he was also a divisive figure who antagonised many in his own party.

PEACE OF MIND Wednesday, December 19, BBC One Wales, 10.45pm

The third and final programme in the observational documentary series that aims to take a sensitive look at what life is like with an ongoing and chronic mental illness.

One in four of us will suffer mental illness, and the taboo and stigma attached is still huge. The series was filmed over the course of four months and reveals the reality of living with mental illness in Wales today.

This week the programme features two individuals with serious mental health problems, who receive their care outside hospital in the community. Lucy has a diagnosis of bipolar disorder and works hard to balance a cocktail of medication to avoid serious relapses, which can lead to periods of mania or severe depression.

Tim was diagnosed with schizophrenia 12 years ago and hears six voices regularly, but has refused medication to make the voices go away.

Gan na chafodd ei gynllwyn i waredu ar Moc lawer iawn o lwyddiant, mae Garry yn meddwl am ffordd arall i sicrhau fod Moc yn gadael Cwmderi. Gan wybod fod Hywel yn trwsio cyfrifiadur Moc, mae Garry yn torri i fewn i Lwyncelyn er mwyn plannu tystiolaeth yn ei erbyn. Wedi gwaredu Moc o’r pentref, mae Sheryl mewn lle cas wrth iddi gyfaddef wrth Garry ei bod wedi ei ddefnyddio, does ganddi ddim bwriad nac awydd cynnal perthynas ag ef. Mae hyn yn ergyd i Garry, ond nid yw’n dod fel syndod mawr iddo. Sut y byddai’n mynd ati i berswadio Sheryl taw gydag ef y mae ei dyfodol?

Yn ffyddlon hyd y diwedd, mae Anita yn parhau i fod yn gefn i Moc. Wrth iddo baratoi i adael Cwmderi mae Anita ei hun yn ffarwelio a does dim un yn fwy ystyrlon na’r Deri. Ond anaml iawn mae pethau’n troi mas fel y bwriadwyd ac mae’n bosib y bydd Anita yn wynebu Nadolig unig iawn.

Caiff Ed dipyn o syndod wrth baratoi am noson ramantus gydag Angela pan ddaw ar draws lwmp yn un o’i geilliau. Ond yn hytrach nag ymddiried yn ei bartner, Dani sy’n gefn iddo. Erbyn diwedd yr wythnos, mae Angela wedi ei chythruddo a rhydd rybudd gadarn i Dani i gadw draw.

 Seeing as his plan to get rid of Moc didn’t exactly work, Garry thinks up another devious way to make sure Moc never returns to Cwmderi. Knowing that Hywel is fixing Moc’s computer, Garry breaks into Llwyncelyn and plants some incriminating evidence on the laptop that will convince everyone that he’s guilty. Having finally had her way, Sheryl comes clean with Garry and tells him that she’s been using him all along. Garry is heartbroken but if he’s being honest, he knew that was the case. Will he turn on the charm and make Sheryl come back for more?

Faithful until the end, Anita is standing by her man. As Moc prepares to leave Cwmderi Anita bids her own farewells, and none more meaningful than with the Deri. But things never turn out as you expect and she may face a very lonely Christmas.

A romantic night with Angela is cut short when Ed finds a lump in his testicle. But rather than confiding in his partner, it’s Dani he turns to for support. By the end of the week, Angela is furious and gives Dani a stark warning to stay away from her man.
