NW Arkansas came from behind with four runs in the 7th and four in the 8th to swing in front late and claim the 9-5 win in game four of the series on Thursday night. The Cardinals jumped in front first in the 2nd with an RBI single from 2B Nick Dunn and a run-scoring fielder’s choice by SS Delvin Perez. After the Naturals got on the board in the 5th, an RBI single from LF Brendan Donovan in the 6th opened it back to a two-run lead, 3-1. RHP Dalton Roach kept the Naturals to just one run in his first 6.0 frames, but NW Arkansas tied it with consecutive solo home runs from 3B Dennicher Carrasco and LF Brhet Bewley in the 7th, followed later in the inning by an RBI sac fly from SS Bobby Witt, Jr. and an RBI single by DH MJ Melendez to open the 5-3 lead. Four more runs in the 8th made it 9-3, before a two-run blast by Donovan in the bottom of the 8th accounted for the eventual 9-5 final. Donovan does it all… INF Brendan Donovan continued to contribute in all phases with a 2x3 night on Thursday, hitting a two-run home run with an RBI single, driving in three total runs with one scored and one walk. The 24 year old from Madison, AL has been on base in 19 of his first 22 games with Springfield, batting .316 with four homers, 12 RBIs, three doubles, five steals and 16 runs. Even hotter of late, Donovan has hit safely in 10 of his last 12 games, with a .341 (15x44) average, three homers, two doubles and 10 RBIs during that stretch. Delvin deliverin’… Despite SS Delvin Perez’s 18-game on-base streak closing on Thursday, he still pitched in with an RBI. The 22 year old reached base in every game from 6/11 – 6/30, batting .408 (31x76) with three homers, two doubles, three triples, six RBIs, seven walks and 14 runs. He hit safely in 16 of those 18 games, including a career-high 11-game hitting streak from 6/12-24. Perez closed a torrid month of June in which he hit .347 with three homers, three doubles, three triples, eight RBIs, six steals and 18 runs in 24 games, swinging his way into 3rd in the league with 55 hits overall this season. Gettin’ it Dunn… INF Nick Dunn matched a career high with three hits on Thursday, going 3x4 with an RBI and a run. The Sunbury, PA native has been on fire of late, hitting safely in 12 of his last 15 games and batting .333 (17x51) with one home run, eight RBIs and a double during that stretch. In his first year of Double-A ball, Dunn was drafted by the Cardinals in the 5th round of the 2018 draft out of the University of Maryland. The new guy, Nunez… After joining Springfield on Monday in conjunction with INF Nolan Gorman’s promotion to AAA-Memphis, 3B Malcom Nunez collected his first Double-A hit with an RBI single in the 7th of Game 1 on Wednesday and has hit safely in each of his last three contests. The Cardinals #13 prospect, Nunez started 2021 in High-A Peoria, where he hit .285 with three home runs, 20 RBIs, 10 doubles, two triples and five steals in 35 games. Just 20 years old, Nunez made his professional debut in 2018 in the Dominican Summer League where he won the triple crown (.415, 13 HR, 59 RBI).
