Date: March 18, 2020 Age: 5 years Old Theme: Sports Sub Theme: Let’s Exercise

Objectives: After Watching a video or browsing newspaper, children will: 1. Identify at least two ways in which we move our bodies. 2. Model three ways in which we move our bodies. 3. Demonstrate ways in which we exercise (drawing, painting, making models etc.)

Content: When we exercise, we move our bodies in different ways, e.g. running, skipping, jumping, dancing, , or walking.

Resources: Scrap book, crayon, paint, cardboard, paste, paper, newspaper, magazines, television. Activities: 1. Watch and discuss videos of individuals exercising. 2. Browsing newspapers/magazines for pictures of individuals exercising. 3. Search for and cutting out words associated with exercising-skipping, jumping, dancing, swimming, walking. 4. Model types of exercises- going for walks, skipping, running, jumping, running. 5. Create models of individuals exercising (using cardboard, playdough etc. 6. Match cut-out words with pictures (from newspaper/magazine).

Follow up Activities: Words to cut from newspaper/magazine: swimming, jumping, dancing, walking, running.

Sub-Theme: Famous Jamaicans in Sports

Objectives:

1. Identify at least 5 sporting activities done by 2. Examine contents of a video clip/ newspaper article and list famous Jamaican sportsmen and women. 3. Write and read at least one sentence about their favourite Jamaican sports person. 4. Practice writing and reading words and sentences that have the letter “G” “g” in free activities 5. Activities

1. Parent/ Guardian and child will view video clips or read newspaper article and list the Sporting activities highlighted. 2. Parent/ Guardian and child will write the names of the sportsmen and sportswomen mentioned in video or article. 3. Child will draw a picture of their favourite Sportsman and write sentences about him 4. Parent/ Guardian will draw a large letter Gg or use the one attached, tear coloured newspaper/ construction paper then allow child paste pieces within the letter Gg. 5. Parent and child will create sets to make 11 by following the pattern below: If I have zero, how many more will I need to make 11?

If I have one, how many more will I need to make 11?

If I have two, how many more will I need to make 11?

Child will draw sets to show what was being done with counters then complete the worksheets attached.

Gayle, Fraser-Pryce crowned Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year

KINGSTON, Jamaica — As expected, MVP athletes Tajay Gayle and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce were crowned 2019 RJRGLEANER Foundation Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year at a glittering awards function at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel on Friday night.

Gayle easily copped the award following his stunning World Championships performance to cop gold in the men's with 8.62m, which was the longest jump in the world for 10 years. The 23-year-old Gayle bettered 2018 winner , who won silver in the discus at the World Championships; Caribbean squash champion Christopher Binnie; Yona Knight-Wisdom, diving silver medalist; and another discus thrower, Travis Smikle.

Gayle now joins who won in 1995, 1996 and 2003, as the second-long jumper to win the prestigious award since it started in 1961.

Meanwhile, Fraser-Pryce, 33, won her fourth Sportswoman of the Year award following her gold medal run at the World Championships in Doha, Qatar last year.

It was a sensational return to the track as she won her fourth 100m World title in a world-leading 10.71 seconds after giving birth to her son in 2017.

Fraser-Pryce also won the award in 2012, 2013 and 2015.

Fedrick Dacres and Shericka Jackson were named runners-up to the Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year respectively.

Athletics has dominated the awards in its 58-year history with men now winning 30 times and the women 51 times.

Swimmer Alia Atkinson, who broke the dominance of athletics winners in 2014 and again in 2017 and 2018, was again shortlisted.

Daniel Thomas-Dodd, Rushell Clayton, Shanieka Ricketts, Notoya Goule, Elaine Thompson and Danielle Williams were the other nominees.

Fraser-Pryce also won the People's Choice Performance of the Year award.

Jamaica and West Indies fast bowling legend was presented with the Iconic award, while FIFA assistant referees Princess Brown-Muir and Stephanie-Dale Yee Sing picked up the Chairman's award.

2. Talk about the importance of exercise and the benefits to the body.

3. Play music and create dance moves to imitate the movement of things in the environment such as animals, plants, modes of transportation etc.

4. Engage in cool-down exercises such as walking around a room / house and basic stretches. Follow-Up:

1. Work together to choreograph a dance for a popular song or nursery rhyme.

2. Imitate the exercises seen on a video or on pictures
