Canoe Battleship Rules

1. Teams will consist of four (4) players in each ; any less than 4 players will result in a 10 gallon penalty prior to play starting, to combat the unfair advantage of weight difference in the canoe. 2. Each team will take their buckets and try to fill their opponent’s with water until their canoe is sunk. The teams may also use their yoga mat to block water from entering their canoe. The primary objective of the game is to be the last canoe standing. 3. In order to move around the pool, teams must use their hands or buckets. 4. There will be no more than four (4) canoes in the water at one time 5. If the game comes to a stale mate with no team advancing on the others, the YMCA staff will move the canoes closer to each other. 6. Players are encouraged to wear swim attire, t-shirts and athletic shorts are allowed 7. Each team will be provided with 3 buckets and 1 yoga mat. 8. Participants will climb into their respective canoes from the edge of the pool while the canoes are on sides of the pool. No participant will attempt to enter the canoe while standing or in the water. 9. YMCA staff/referees will survey all canoes for proper equipment and make sure all safety requirements are met. 10. Once canoes are inspected, they will be spread out evenly throughout the water. 11. The referee will blow his/her whistle and the battle will begin. 12. Teams may not empty water from the inside of their own canoe. This will result in a penalty of each team member filling up all of their buckets and dumping in their own canoe. If a team commits this penalty twice it will result in disqualification. 13. Players many not stand up in their canoe at any time. This will result in a penalty of each team member filling up all of their buckets and dumping in their own canoe. If a team commits this penalty twice it will result in disqualification. 14. Players may not jump out of their canoe at any time during the battle. This will result in a team disqualification from the tournament. 15. Players may not physically contact any member or equipment of another team to keep them from attacking or defending. This includes pushing off of other canoes in order to change directions. This will result in a team disqualification for the tournament. 16. Teams must remain in the boundaries set up by the YMCA staff. Violation will result in a pentaly of each team member filling up their own buckets of water and dumping them into their own canoes. 17. Once your canoe has been sunk or your team has been disqualified, all members must abandon the canoe and immediately exit the water. YMCA staff in and around the pool will the canoe to its proper location. 18. Any attempt to hinder another team after your canoe has been sunk will result in an ejection for all players involved.
