For release on November 10th 2017 New Years - Foundling’s First Single From ‘Fault Lines’ Finds Soul Twins In Fractured Realities. The first offering from Berlin based Foundling’s (CA, DK, DE) new album ‘Fault Lines’ is a dream pop soundscape with lush delicate vocals and ethereal effected guitars, countered by deep bass and pulsing beats and percussion. Having worked on the album with Lasse Mårtén (Lykke Li, Jonsi, Primal Scream) and having been produced by Danish born Marc Stebbing (Grand Avenue) it recalls distinctly Scandinavian aesthetics, vast landscapes and sweeping skies all with a detailed intimacy and a distant pulse. The albums other producer Erin Lang, (Montreal, Canada), also Foundling’s vocalist, brings her love of 1930’s lush vocal layering and her experience in Montreal’s scene and its dedication to off-kilter dark indie music. (Her previous album was made with Mark Lawson (Arcade Fire, Timber Timbre), featured Taylor Kirk of Timber Timbre, and Godspeed You! Black Emperor’s David Bryant mixed the albums instrumental tracks.) She lends ‘New Years’ it’s quirky enchanted winter quality. (of the previous album ‘Between You and the Sea’) “Every song is an enchanting pop gem of delicate instrumentation and emotional vulnerability” - Drown in Sound UK “The spirit of authenticity and passion” – Nothing but Hope and Passion DE ‘New Years’ was born after a chance meeting between Erin Lang and Marc Stebbing on New Years eve in Berlin Germany, where the pair had each recently found themselves after uprooting their previous lives. In the chaos that is Berlin’s exploding fireworks skies and streets, the pair connected deeply, personally and musically and began working on Fault Lines together. The song came to light during the process of making the album and thematically explores the nature of duality and searching for a connection through other dimensions and realities. It speaks of finding a connection again that existed before this time and lasts beyond our bodies. ‘Mirror twin I know we’ve been/ here long before this first night/ spirit twin I found you in/ reflections in my own eyes/ souls that tangle crossed and tied/ I found you for the 3rd time’ It garners conflicting emotions in last chances and bleak realities but also the hope that blooms in every new year. ‘We are the new year/ We are the deep wounds/ We are the half lies in full truths/ We are the first teeth, cut too soon/ We are the first light.’ Kristina Koropecki (Agnes Obel, Mark Berube) creates the Doppler effect cellos and icy highway movement of the song and Foundling’s David Georgos (Locoto, Memum) creates the soundscapes that paint New Years’ aurora borealis skies. Foundling created a music video for ‘New Years’ in collaboration with Canadian modern dancers/choreographers Emilie Morin and Danielle Denichaud. Directed by Amsterdam based Robin Lang at SPREESTUDIOS in Berlin, Germany, it’s a refracted movement piece with strong foetal twin imagery. https://vimeo.com/228812236 Password:newyears ‘New Years’ will be digitally released on November 10th 2017. © Foundling 2017.
