Australian Wine Tasting 2018 AUSTRALIAN WINE TASTING 2018 1 OCTOBER STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN #aussiewine #nordictasting Welcome Australia has thousands of wineries, dotted throughout 65 wine regions across the country. Our unique climate and vast landscape enables us to produce an incredibly diverse range of wine, which can be seen in more than 100 different grape varieties. Australian winemakers are proud creators and innovators and we are lucky to have the freedom to make high quality, bold wine, our own way. Our wines express the passion and diversity of the people who craft them and the unique regional characteristics of their origins. At this year’s tasting in Stockholm, we’ll be showcasing over 250 wines, representing 32 wine regions. You will discover wines from some of our most renowned regions, to the lesser known. Some of the wineries here you’ll be familiar with, but others you might not have come across before. 18 producers at the tasting aren’t yet in the Swedish market and are seeking an importer. Visit our Focus Tables to explore a diverse range of Australian wine, from the great classics to the contemporary. We have chosen two themes: ‘Australian Chardonnay and Shiraz’ and ‘The new wave of Australian wine’. On both tables, the wines display a unique sense of place, the personality of the winemaker and different winemaking techniques. Taste this exciting line-up and discover what makes Australian wine great. Exports of Australian wine continue to grow globally and there are encouraging signs of positive growth across a number of markets in Europe. The latest Export Report (MAT June 2018) shows that exports of Australian wine to Sweden are up 12% to AUD $23 million. We hope that today’s tasting will highlight why Australian wine is thriving in this market. Don’t forget to share your discoveries with us and your fellow tasters. Join the online conversation with the hashtags #aussiewine #nordictasting We’re on Twitter (@Wine_Australia), Instagram (@WineAustralia) and Facebook (WineAustralia). If we can help to answer questions, educate or inspire you, please ask one of the Wine Australia team or drop us a line later on [email protected] We hope you enjoy the tasting and look forward to hearing your feedback. Updated June 28, 2021 PORTFOLIO REVIEW SUMMARY AUSTRALIA d’Arenberg - McLaren Vale, South Australia Chester Osborn d’Arenberg is one of the undisputed kings of Australian Shiraz and other Rhone varieties that have historically defi ned the region. A century on, under the stewardship of fourth generation winemaker Chester Osborn, in terms of winemaking, not much has changed—all the wines are basket-pressed, the reds foot-trodden during fermentation; everything is done in small batches, leading to an impressive array of bottlings every year. From the Stump Jumps through to the highly-regarded Icons, these wines offer value, individuality and a true taste of McLaren Vale. • Our Wine List Is Based Around the Drinking Culture of Ancient
Our wine list is based around the drinking culture of ancient Rome and throughout the list we highlight the region of Lazio whilst supporting the great diversity of producers found here in Western Australia. Following a practice developed by the Romans for categorizing wines we have listed all wines by colour then by grape varietal forming a simplistic drinking guide. 1 Aperitivi (45ml) Vermouth – Italy Made with fortified wine infused with various botanicals including wormwood, gentian, cloves and other spices, recent history has seen this drink turn into the ideal aperitif. Best served on the rocks or with your choice of tonic or soda. Vermouth del Professore, Piedmont 9 Carpano Antica Formula, Piedmont 9 Punt e Mes, Piedmont 8 Cocchi Americano, Piedmont 11 Bitters – Italy Started for medicinal purposes and a long rich history of secret recipes, the flavour and composition of bitters are diverse and varied but always exciting. Enjoy your glass of medicine either on the rocks or with your choice of tonic or soda Biostilla ‘Rondò’, Trentino-Alto Adige 7 Walcher ‘Bio Bitter 25’, Trentino-Alto Adige 10 Aperol, Lombardy 8 Campari, Lombardy 8 2 Gin (30ml) Geneva as it was first known, instilled Dutch Courage in the soldiers fighting along- side the Dutch in the late 16th and early 17th century. In the 18th century the magistrate referred to gin as ‘The principle cause of all the vice and debauchery committed among the inferior sort of people’.
