Director of Enrollment Management Enrollment of Director The Knight Times Mary Ruth Shearer ‘73 Shearer Ruth Mary alter UPDATE page 3 From the Principal/CEO Lourdes Lambert CONSERVATORY OF THE ARTS

Dear Families:

At Archbishop Alter High School, we are excited to be nearing the end of a capital campaign Father Jim joined us for the Arts Wing announcement that began in 2008. Since the inception of this campaign, we have renovated our Chapel, Science Labs, Chef Lab, constructed a STEM lab, and converted our existing practice areas into updated turf fields. The transformation at our school has been exciting to watch. The enthusiasm continues to grow as we anticipate the construction of a new Arts Wing that will house our art, band, dance, music and theater classes. This wing will be the new home of our region’s only Conservatory for the Arts program. Our purpose in these updates is to have facilities that match the quality of our programming.

We are proud that these renovations mirror the Miley Azbill performed her song “It’s where you belong” education our students receive. The renovation of our Chapel mirrors the commitment to spiritual development. Our state of the art Science and STEM labs reflect our commitment to a 21st century educational model. Our turf fields enable our state championship teams to practice and play in a facility that matches their level of excellence. The culminating project of the Arts Wing will continue to allow us to educate the whole child, and encourage each student to be their best selves in all areas. It’s an exciting time at Alter High School, and we continue to work hard to fulfill the promise offered to us by our Lord and Savior as it is our mission to prepare children not only for college, but for The band and color guard leading the Alma Mater eternal salvation.

With a grateful heart, The Knight Times alter UPDATE page 4

CONSERVATORY OF THE ARTS ANNOUNCEMENT FINISHING THE JOB! Construction of the new Arts Wing is expected to begin in the spring/summer of 2017, and the building will feature a 236 seat theatre, an art gallery and classroom, a two-story band and music room, a dance studio, and many other amenities. This wing will be the new home of the Alter High School Conservatory for the Arts – the only program of its kind in the Archdiocese. The purpose in these updates is to provide facilities that match the quality of the arts programming at Alter High School.

Dear Parents,

I wanted to make you aware of an excellent opportunity that’s been made available to our athletes at Archbishop Alter High School. We are again partnering with mCORE™ — Mobile Cardiac Overview and Risk Evaluation — to screen our athletes for the cardiac conditions and abnormalities which may put them at risk of Sudden Cardiac Death (SCA). SCA Is The Number One Killer of Young Athletes. SCA is the result of unsuspecting cardiological disease or abnormalities which cause the heart to stop without warning or symptoms. We hear about several student-athletes each year that are lost to this devastating tragedy, many of which could have been prevented with a simple examination like this. Space is limited, so Sign up Today at www.mcoreathletes.com or for more information on mCORE and SCA please see video link below .https://vimeo.com/53605191/

Please see the Details on the Screening Date and Time Below:

 Date: Monday February 27, 2017  Time: 8:00am - 5:00 pm  Location: Training Room

The time requirement is approximately 10-12 minutes per athlete. Each athlete will be given an EKG and Echo screening and these tests typically cost more than $2000 in a clinical setting. The cost to you is $75. (The screening age range is 14-22 years). You may use your Healthcare Spending Account or Flex Care Spending Account. All screenings are performed by a Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer and results are read by the mCORE Medical Director Dr. Kenneth Berkovitz, MD. Board Certified in Cardiovascular Disease, Interventional Cardiology and Internal Medicine

ATHLETES MUST PRE-REGISTER ONLINE FOR THE SCREENING BY VISITING: www.mCOREathletes.com or call Chad Ogden with questions at 614-648-4656.
