Tradition. Faith. Teamwork. Commitment. Runs in our Family.

St. Vincent-St. Mary High School is a four-year, co-educational, college preparatory Catholic high school. We have been and continue to be an integral part of the Akron community for more than 100 years, providing quality education rooted in Catholic faith. More than 18,000 alumni are proud to be a part of our rich history.

FACILITATING THE GROWTH OF CHRIST’S SPIRIT It is by the authority of the Bishop of Cleveland that we teach the Catholic Tradition. The ultimate goal of our school is to facilitate the growth of Christ’s Spirit. In witness to this spirit, we minister to one another and to the greater communities of our school, our city, our country, and our world. MISSION In the spirit of the Gospel, we are committed to educate the whole person: to lead and to serve, enlightening the mind, developing the body, touching the heart, and inspiring the soul. SPONSORSHIP A Catholic High School in the Marianist tradition, effective 2017, one of nineteen Marianist high schools in the Marianist Province of the United States ACCREDITATION Akron’s first institution for Catholic, coeducational secondary education, chartered by the State of Ohio and accredited by The Ohio Catholic School Accrediting Association and also holds the prestigious Ohio Department of Education STEM designation, effective 2017. The school is also accredited by the North Central Association/Advanced Ed since 1950. LEADERSHIP Governed by an Executive Board in cooperation with the President, Principal, administrative team, faculty, parents, and support organizations, and with religious direction from the Diocese of Cleveland. TEACHER/STUDENT RATIO 1 classroom teacher per 13 students. GRADUATES An average of 97% of St. Vincent-St. Mary graduates enroll in four year colleges and universities across the country immediately upon graduation, with the majority of students awarded scholarships and grants. The Class of 2018 earned a total of $14 million. INFORMATION Extensive information about our student body, administration and faculty, academic departments, course offerings, campus ministry, fine and performing arts, student activities, athletic programs, support groups, alumni, campus and facilities, code of conduct, ongoing events and much more is available at our website:www.stvm.com .

The merging of Akron’s first two Catholic schools, St. Mary and St. Vincent, is portrayed in the official crest of STVM. Featured in gold on a green background are a cross, a torch, and a plow and sword. The cross symbolizes the religious foundation of the school. The torch, symbolizing learning, differs from traditional designs in that it is held by two hands, one representing each school. The plow and sword symbolize commitment to social justice and were part of the crest of the late Bishop Clarence Issenman, who directed the formation of St. Vincent-St. Mary High School.

Greetings from Campus Ministry, As we start a new school year, we are again As always: Go, Irish! provided with a fresh start. We can build on Robert Brownfield VM03, Principal our successes from last year, develop and grow in the skills we have, and overcome, learn, and move on from mistakes we may have made. It is a new season. Let us get excited, focused, and remain positive in our thinking as we head out onto the playing field or court. Let us be the best athlete that we can be. Let us not forget that we are called to do the same in our faith life. God gives us second chances and opportunities to improve our lives. God calls us to become the best versions of ourselves. We all make mistakes, but we are given the grace to overcome them. Let us get excited, focused, and positive about all the opportunities that will come our way this year to better ourselves and build God’s Kingdom. We pray for the safety of our athletes and the strength to be the best that we can be in all we do.

Willie D. McGee VM03 - Athletic Director I would like to take the time to express my appreciation to be the Director of Athletics at St. Vincent St. Mary High School. It is extremely important to me to continue the rich tradition and legacy of academics and athletic excellence. My goal is to stress that all student-athletes “Be the Best” in the classroom and in life. It is an honor and blessing to return home to STVM as an administrator. I understand the rich tradition of STVM as a former student-athlete, class president and as a part of the historic Fab Five. I strongly believe that “It Takes a Village to Raise a Child”. My village encompassed a supportive family, friends, teachers, and coaches in the STVM community. STVM is a unique and special community where we wear the green and gold proudly. It is a priority for me to give back to this community and make a difference in the lives of our youth. It has always been in my prayers that I would one day return to STVM, my prayers have been answered and this is a dream come true. The Fighting Irish have always represented with strong pride, integrity and great sportsmanship. I look forward to supporting the students, coaches, administration, parents, alumni and boosters. Thank you for your continued support of our athletic programs. I am excited and looking forward to another year of greatness with our athletic events this year. Irish Forever! Willie D. McGee VM03, Athletic Director

Carley Whitney VM07- Asst. Athletic Director Time and time again, St. Vincent-St. Mary High School proves that we are the BEST high school in Akron, and in my mind Ohio. The tradition of academics and athletics here at STVM is rich in history and deep rooted in Faith and Family. I am so blessed to call this place my alma mater, but most importantly my home. I was once the little girl in the stands, then the student athlete, then the alum, then the assistant, then the employee, and now a head coach and an employee of a place I hold near and dear to my heart. This place creates boundless opportunities, and I am thankful for that every day. There is something extremely special about this place, each reason different but the parallel is the same- our tradition. We believe in winning in the classroom, in life, and on the playing surface. We set the foundation for many to succeed and the 18,000 living examples all over the Nation are exhibiting that daily. I feel truly blessed to be a part of the Athletic Department here. This year will, yet again, be something special and I am excited to share it with each and every one of you. Thank you for your support, without you, our tradition and history would not be as rich- for that, I cannot thank you enough. Your Friend, Carley Whitney VM07, Assistant Athletic Director

These gifts are designated to help bridge the gap Parent P between the cost of tuition and the true cost to educate each student. This gap al ar ci tn spans beyond $1,300. f e Zoe Zimcosky f r O Volleyball We ask that each family will prayerfully consider a gift at any level so that we can achieve 100% parent participation—just as 100% of STVM students directly benefit from gifts to this program. Gifts of $25 or more qualify for an Official Parent Partner water tumbler or travel mug.

Due to scheduling STVM strives to remain cost-accessible to as many families as possible. We conflicts, some seniors St. Vincent-St. Mary are blessed to have parents, alumni and friends that believe in the value of a High School STVM education. A strong Parent Partnership to support The Fund for STVM not pictured enables tuition to remain at a level that is achievable for all STVM families.

He comments, “I am extremely proud to be apart of the St. Vincent St. Mary High School family, having the privilege of coaching the Girls Varsity and Junior Varsity Tennis Teams. Having just recently retired from teaching, and having a passion for teaching and coaching tennis players, I will be entirely committed to providing the best possible experience for the girls on the tennis teams at St. Vincent-St. Mary High School. I look forward to supporting the students, coaches, administration, parents, alumni and boosters to help provide the best experience possible for the students at St. Vincent-St. Mary High School.” Coach Nano Zegarra is back as the Assistant Coach for the girls tennis team with the responsibility of assisting the Head Coach and for coaching the Junior Varsity girls teams. Coach Zegarra has coached CYO programs for many years and has always kept the best interests of the students he coaches at heart to help them to achieve. Coach Zegarra and I believe that the girls education comes first and that any and all academic concerns will be addressed to the girls advantage. Our philosophy is to work hard and to teach the girls how to become better tennis players. This will be accomplished through conditioning, drills in practices and competition among themselves and their opponents. We encourage the athletes to practice and play year round to improve their tennis skills to get them ready for each fall season. We are able and willing to help develop this program and add to the rich athletic history here at STVM. Thank you again for allowing us to become part of the St. Vincent-St. Mary family.
