Wednesday, 7 November 2018 DELIVERING GREAT LOCAL SCHOOLS IN THE SOUTH-EASTERN SUBURBS Families across the south-east suburbs will have access to the world-class local schools their kids deserve, with a re-elected Andrews Labor Government to open 10 new schools in the area over the next four years. Victoria is growing and we need to plan ahead to make sure that every child has access to a great local school. As part of the $850 million investment to be delivered by a re-elected Labor Government 10 schools are now fully funded across the south eastern suburbs. These include: Pakenham Primary School, opening 2019 Botanic Ridge Primary School, opening 2020 Casey Fields (Five Ways) Primary School, opening 2020 Clyde North East Primary School, opening 2020 Keysborough South Primary School, opening 2020 Pakenham Henry Road Secondary, opening 2021 Cranbourne West Secondary & Special School, opening 2021 Clyde North Primary, opening 2022 Clyde North Secondary College, opening 2022 Endeavour Hills Special School, opening 2022 This builds on the five schools - John Henry Primary School, Barton Primary School, Tulliallan Primary School, Wilandra Rise Primary School and Bridgewood Primary School - which all opened in 2017 and 2018. Across the state, investment from a re-elected Labor Government will see 45 schools open within the next four years. A special planning fund for another 55 schools will also be implemented, which will ensure families can have confidence that Victoria’s education system is well prepared as the state grows. Every child should have a good local school and the chance to succeed in life, and only a re-elected Labor Government will deliver that for kids across our outer suburbs. This is a submission on behalf of the Parliament’s House Committee. The House Committee is a cross-party committee established under the Parliamentary Committees Act 2003. Prior to the introduction of the Victorian Independent Remuneration Tribunal and Improving Parliamentary Standards Act 2019, the House Committee had a role in the development and adoption of guidelines (then known as the Members Guide) for the expenditure of Members’ electorate office and communications budgets. Following discussions of the House Committee, we submit the following issues, and the positions adopted by the committee on each issue, for your consideration. To be clear from the outset, this submission does not seek to increase Members’ budgets but rather suggests ways that existing resources can be used more effectively. Definition of ‘public duties’ You will recall that in a submission to the Tribunal dated 6 December 2019, the Speaker raised the matter of ensuring consistency between the Guidelines and the legislation, specifically as it related to the purpose of the Guidelines being to allow Members to communicate with their electorate in relation to the performance of their public duties. Whilst the Tribunal changed the Guidelines, feedback from Members and the Department of Parliamentary Services (in carrying out the duties of the Relevant Officer) is that the extent of the term ‘public duties’ should be clarified in the Guidelines.

Locals to Help Shape Flagship Community Hospitals
Monday, 4 March 2019 LOCALS TO HELP SHAPE FLAGSHIP COMMUNITY HOSPITALS Ten new community hospitals for Victoria are a step closer, with local families set to help decide the services they will provide. Minister for Health Jenny Mikakos today announced who will chair the community consultation committees, which will give local communities a say over the future of their hospital. The Andrews Labor Government is investing $675 million to build or upgrade 10 new community hospitals close to major growth areas in Craigieburn, Cranbourne, Pakenham, Phillip Island, Sunbury, Torquay, the City of Whittlesea, the Eltham area, Point Cook and Fishermans Bend. Community Consultation Committees are being established so carers, patients, families and volunteers can work with health service providers to ensure each hospital meets the particular needs of locals. Community hospitals will allow communities to access a range of public services including allied health such as physiotherapy and speech pathology, after-hours health care with access to pathology and imaging, women’s health including family planning, community mental health and alcohol and drug assessment. They will also provide services like day surgery, renal dialysis, chemotherapy, chronic disease management and public dental. Construction is expected to start by 2022 and finish by 2024.
