Over a million men fought in this Battle over 500,000 Germans, 600,000 Americans and 55,000 British. There were 100,000 German Casualties, killed wounded or captured. There were 81,000 American casualties including 23,554 captured and 19,000 killed. There were 1,400 British casualties 200 killed. The Malmedy Massacre, where 86 American soldiers were murdered, was the worst atrocity committed against American Troops during the war in Europe. ring the Course of the Battle 800 Tanks were lost on each side and 1,000 German aircraft. During the battle there was very intense bombing going on between the Americans and Germans almost everyday either side sent out planes to bomb various targets. This was the coldest and most snowiest winter in memory in the Ardennes Forest on the German/Belgium border. Many people suffered from frostbite. Most of the bombs and shell that were dropped and fired had sayings on them like you can see in the picture the shell says Merry Xmas Adolph. This usually boosted the men's moral a little bit. A lot of the fighting that took place in the Ardennes Forest was based on taking over town so soldiers could rest and have a place to set up camp and have more strategic locations for fighting. Most of the time when a town was taken over it was bombed a lot and lots of grenade and bazooka explosions damaged a lot of the buildings so there wasn't much left of them. This is a map of the battle of the bulge. This is a map of the German Troop movement in the Battle of the Bulge. Some War Shots we found. .
