Dear Parishioners of Ste Rose, Laurier and McCreary,

1. Covid Restricons li. Beginning July 17th, faith-based gatherings are permied up to 50% of a church’s capacity to a maximum of 150 people. That’s more than adequate for our needs. There is room for all now, so please come to Mass freely.

Facemasks are sll required, and funeral and wedding congregaons indoors connue to be limited more severely—only 25 persons may aend in those situaons.

2. Our summer seminarian, Oliver Omega, arrived early in July and will remain with us unl early August. If you fail to see him on a Sunday morning, it may be because I’ve sent him into the missions with Fr Jorge Mante as Fr Jorge visits his communies for Mass.

3. Some more reading on Residenal Schools. I came across three interesng arcles recently:(1.) First, Terry Glavin’s arcle,“Canada’s Early Prophets were Indigenous. Now Someone is Destroying Their Churches” inThe Naonal Post. Mr Glavin tells some remarkable stories of how some Chrisan missionaries discovered that the indigenous peoples already had Chrisan faith before the missionaries arrived.(2) Second, Trisn Hopper’s arcle“How Canada forgot about more that 1,308 graves at former residenal schools”,alsoinThe Naonal Post. (3) Third, Douglas Farrow, a Catholic theologian at McGill has an arcle at firshings.com called“The History of Canada’s Residenal Schools” where he considers the way we frame the history of residenal schools.

Yours in Christ

Fr Patrick
