Zawadzki*, Iago S. Penido** and Paulo H. F. Lucinda*** Hypostomus krishnamurtii, new species, a pale-spotted species from the medium and upper portions of the rio Tocantins basin is herein described. The new species is distinguished from congeners by a combination of char- acters: body with pale spots or vermiculations on darker background, 60-83 teeth on each mandibular row, one plate posteriorly bordering supraoccipital and moderate keels with odontodes. Introduction H. hemiurus, H. auroguttatus, H. plecostomus and H. nematopterus clades. Hypostomus (Siluriformes: Loricariidae) has about Regarding the rio Araguaia-Tocantins basin, 140 valid nominal species in Central and South few species have been so far described. The monophyly of H. atropinnis was described by Eigenmann & the genus was hypothesized since first molecular Eigenmann (1890) and H. goyazensis by Regan studies on loricariids (Montoya-Burgos, 1998).
