Thrissur Regional Centre bagged First Prize

The Regional Centre Thrissur team bagged first prize in Pakarnnattam competition conducted by- Ker ala Sahitya Acadmy. The performance named ‘Agrepaxhyani” presenting the life of Melpathoor was directed by Nipin Unni. About 20 students participated in the performance. Thrissur regional campus team has been receiving first prize in Pakarnattam competition for the third concecutive time.

National Workshop on methodological devices of Indian Sciences with special reference to Ayurveda and Mimamsa.

The Department of Sanskrit General con- ducted a three day UGC sponsored Nation- al Workshop ‘Tantrayuktivicara’ on meth- odological devices of Indian Sciences with special reference to Ayurveda and Mimam- sa. Dr. T. P. Raveendran (Registrar) inaugu- rated the workshop. The workshop opended new horizons to Sanskrit academia and research scholars. The Workshop enunciated the reapprais- al of Tantrayukti doctrine as the guiding principle to validate any science or system of knowledge. It is essential for a scientific subject to devise a functional knowledge system, free of human errors. Anubandhas,

Caturvyuhas, Tantrayuktis and Mimamsa are Sanskrit’s eternal treasure to devise perfect and fresh meth- ods to precise results. The Tantrayuktis are the major logical means or devices correlating the verses of a knowledge system in tex- tual form, with appropriate meaning. Dr. Korada Subrahmanyam, Professor of Sanskrit, Cen- tre for Applied Linguistics and Translation Studies, University of Hyderabad, Dr. K. Murali, Professor, Department of Kayacikitsa, Govt.Ayurveda College, Kannur. Dr. M. Jayaraman, Director, Research Department, Krishnamacharya Yoga- mandiram, Scientific Industrial research Organisation, Chennai were the resource persons of the Workshop. Citing the early medieval Sanskrit, Tamil and Pali sources of Indian sciences the resource persons pointed out the Pan Indian influence of the Tantrayukti doctrine once had as a standard code of writing theoretical and technical literature. The workshop succeeded in defining and grouping Tantrayuktis. The pivotal role of- Mi mamsa as a motivational Science has been traced out. The tradition of incorporating Mimamsa in Ayurvedic practice of Kerala has also been highlighted. The valedictory speakers included Dr. K.P. Kesavan, Dean of Sanskrit Literature, Dr. K.T. Madhavan, Mem- ber Syndicate, Dr. K.G. Kumari, Dr. A.P. Francis, Dr. M.V. Natesan and Anandaraj G. Research scholars from different Universities of Kerala participated in the workshop. While Proposing the vote of thanks, Dr. Sreevi- dya G, the coordinator of the workshop, announced the future plans of the Department to go further with the subject to explore its applications in various scientific and technical disciplines. Malayan Night Heron Sri. P. B. Samkumar, Assistant Legal Officer of our University has spotted from Malayattoor forest range an elusive noctornal bird, Malayan Night Heron which is exclusive to verdant forests. It is for the first time that the bird was spotted here.
