Introducing: NAMI Basics NAMI Basics is a free, six-session program designed for parents and other family caregivers of children and adolescents with emotional and behavioral difficulties. This program helps NEW! participants understand the illnesses that are causing those behaviors, and the critical role families play in the treatment of those illnesses. The program is taught by trained teams who are also the parents or caregivers of children who experienced emotional or behavioral difficulties prior to age 13. This course is inclusive of almost all "aspects of family and child resources. I could have spent a lifetime getting all this information on my own. I feel supported, strong and ready to go forward. We are excited to announce that Vicki Rivera, who has been with NAMI Fox Valley for two years as a Peer Companion at Iris Place, has moved into the position of Recovery Specialist. In her new role, Vicki coordinates the operation of the agency's support and education programs for individuals who live with mental illness.

Vicki, a certified peer specialist, received her undergraduate degree in psychology and human services from Upper Iowa University and her LGBTQ Mental Health Certificate from the University of Milwaukee. She and her wife, Lydia, have four children and a granddaughter. In her spare time, Vicki enjoys photography, gardening and walking her three dogs. Waupaca County Update NAMI Fox Valley support groups are now offered in Waupaca County!

Family Support Group Third Monday of the Month, 6:00-7:30 p.m. Location: Waupaca Regional Center, FVTC Rm. 118, 1979 Godfrey Dr., Waupaca, WI 54981 NAMI Fox Valley Family Support Groups are peer-led support groups for family members, caregivers and loved ones of individuals living with mental illness. The hallmark of a NAMI support group is leveraging the collective knowledge and experience of the other participants.

Teen Support Group 2nd & 4th Mondays, 4:30-6:00 p.m. Location: Trinity Lutheran Church, 206 E. Badger St., Waupaca, WI 54981 Teen Support Groups are designed for teens, ages 14 to 18 (must be in high school), who are experiencing mental health challenges and are looking for a supportive environment to learn coping skills, build resiliency, and connect and socialize with peers experiencing similar struggles.

New Hope Support Group 1st Wednesday, 6:00-7:30 p.m. Location: Waupaca Area Public Library, 107 S. Main St., Waupaca, WI 54981 We offer confidential support groups for adults living with mental illness or mental health challenges at no charge to participants. Participants learn from each others’ experiences, share coping strategies, and offer each other understanding and encouragement. The groups are led by trained facilitators who also live with mental illness.

Crisis Management & Suicide Prevention: Monday, May 7, 2018 at NAMI Fox Valley 6:00 to 7:30 PM This training teaches best practices and techniques in nonviolent crisis de-escalation to support someone in a crisis related to mental illness or suicide. Brain physiology, grounding approaches, and the opportunity to problem solve to apply techniques through case scenarios will be reviewed.

Living Well in Recovery: Monday, October 1, 2018 at NAMI Fox Valley 6:00 to 7:30 PM This recovery education program is presented by individuals affected by mental illness who share their personal stories. The presentations are a practical tool to educate and increase awareness about the true nature of mental illness while also breaking down stigma.

Tips for A Stress Free Holiday Season: Monday, December 3, 2018 at NAMI Fox Valley 6:00 to 7:30 PM The holiday season can be a very stressful time for many people; participants will learn to manage the holidays and the seasons through experiential activities. Shop our "be kind" store!
