Case Study Competition 2020 “National Strategy Major Sport Events” Initial Situation In the past, Germany has successfully hosted major sporting events in various formats, thereby acquiring a reputation as a reliable host. And in the future, the Federal Republic of Germany would like to continue to be the venue for international competitions. In the next five years Germany will host the European Championships 2022, the Special Olympics World Games 2023 and the 2024 EURO. However, the requirements for major sporting events in Germany have fundamentally changed. Expectations of their sporting, social and economic added value has increased and, with them, the ambition to further increase the benefits. For this reason alone, not all events can be supported by politics and public money and therefore it is very important to make the selection transparent and comprehensible. Also, the events that will take place have the burden to fit to the national strategy that will be developed. In addition, nowadays sustainability issues are more important and needed for a successful application and implementation. All of this calls for a nationally coordinated approach and thus a national strategy. The Federal Ministry of the Interior and the German Olympic Sports Federation (DOSB) want to work together. They are trying to work on a "rough concept for a national strategy of major sporting events", as it is formulated in the coalition agreement of the government. The first step is just published in the internet (https://www.bmi.bund.de/SharedDocs/downloads/DE/veroeffentlichungen/themen/sport/grobkonzept- sportgrossveranstaltungen.pdf;jsessionid=9F0FEC50E39A0C52E42BC1EF62CAAB1C.2_cid295?__bl ob=publicationFile&v=3). However, it was just enough to find an overview which was done by the business consulting company PricewaterhouseCoopers. Task Your consultancy is requested to launch a pitch for the consulting the development and fine tuning of the national strategy major sport events of the project of the BMI together with the DOSB.
