Ottobock Supports Competitors at the Invictus Games Sydney 2018 11th September 2018 Ottobock Supports Competitors at the Invictus Games Sydney 2018 From the snow, to the sand and to the city, Ottobock has para-sport covered in 2018. Just a month after the Paralympic Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea, Ottobock opened its workshop for the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games, and now 6 months later the custom designed portable workshop will again provide support to the competitors of the Invictus Games Sydney 2018 presented by Jaguar Land Rover. Ottobock have been announced as the Official Technical Services Supplier of Prosthetics, Orthotics and Wheelchair Repairs to the Invictus Games Sydney 2018 and will support the competitors with its free technical service for the duration of competition. Ottobock is a one of only a few commercial partners of the Invictus Games movement that have been involved in every event since its inception. Ottobock’s core values of “human”, “inventive” and “reliable” are well suited to the Invictus Games ability to capture hearts, challenge minds and change lives. The Invictus Games Sydney 2018 will attract more than 500 competitors from 18 nations to compete in 11 adaptive medal sports, and will recognise and thank families and friends for the crucial role they play in supporting the recovery and rehabilitation of our wounded warriors. Managing Director, Thomas Much said Ottobock will have over 25 technicians at Sydney Olympic Park, many of whom speak multiple languages, to provide optimal support to competitors. “Our team of experts incorporating orthotics and prosthetics professionals, wheelchair technicians and welders will be available to repair and service prostheses, orthoses and wheelchairs so that the competitors can concentrate fully on their performance in the competition,” he said. “Our main workshop will be open daily in the Sydney Olympic Park precinct with mobile workshops located at Invictus Games Sydney 2018 venues and training sites to provide help as soon as possible in case of technical problems.     Invictus Games Foundation Conversation Webinar: Sharing the Invictus Spirit -13 May 2020 Executive Summary On Wednesday, 13 May 2020 the Invictus Games Foundation conducted an inaugural webinar in its Conversation series entitled ‘Sharing the Invictus Spirit’. Originally this event was planned to be held immediately prior to the start of the Invictus Games The Hague during the period 9-16 May 2020 which had to be postponed and rescheduled to take place in 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. As a result, the event was switched to be online in the format of a webinar. In part, the intent was to mark the period when the Invictus Games would have taken place in May 2020 and to recognise the firm commitment of the competitors and their family and friends and, in part, it was designed to maintain the momentum until the rescheduled Invictus Games in The Hague in 2021. The Invictus Games Foundation is indebted to the invaluable support provided by Ascot Rehab, the Fisher House Foundation and ISPS Handa in enabling the Conversation. It is also delighted that the webinar was attended by circa 275 people drawn from across the international community including the 20 Participating Nations of the Invictus Games. The aim of the IGF Conversation was to address, across an international audience, relevant issues in the recovery and rehabilitation of Wounded, Injured and sick (WIS) Service personnel and veterans in order to share best practice and assist in building an enduring, future impact from the continuing evolution of the Invictus Games. The current situation calls for a re-evaluation of what has been considered as the essential significance and effect of the Paralympic Games and the Paralympic Movement on society. In other words, there is an increasing need to look back on the history of the Paralympics to examine its original significance and ideals and, at the same time, to re-evaluate or re-examine the significance and ideals of the Paralympics through comparisons with similar international games and movements. From this perspective, this article will attempt to revisit the original ideals of the Paralympics and to look back on the history of the Paralympics. It will also discuss the significance and ideals of the Paralympics from social and international perspectives, in particular through comparisons with other international disability sports competitions: the Deaflympics, Special Olympics, the VIRTUS（previously INAS） Global Games for persons with intellectual disability, and the Invictus Games.     The legacy of the 2018 Sydney Invictus Games: a national program supporting veterans through sport and wellbeing Veteran Sport Australia is a national program that will pick up the mantle from the Sydney 2018 Invictus Games and continue to support Australia’s veterans and their families through the power of sport. Led and enabled by the RSL, Australia’s longest-established national veterans’ charity, and initially based in Sydney – Veteran Sport Australia is inclusive of all ex-service and veterans organisations. Initial coordinating partners include the Australian Defence Force, Department of Veterans Affairs, state RSL branches and RSL National, Legacy Australia, Soldier On, The Road Home, and Mates for Mates. Funding and support for the initiative is being provided by RSL NSW, Clubs NSW, and legacy provisions from the Sydney 2018 Invictus Games. Connected to grassroots volunteers in the ex-service community, as well as major Australian sporting organisations, Veteran Sport Australia will be run by a professional team based in ANZAC House Sydney. It will closely coordinate with adaptive sporting programs delivered by the Australian Defence Force and will have responsibility for sponsoring ex-service competitors for Team Australia at the 2020 Invictus Games. The initial program focus for Veteran Sport Australia will be on Invictus and Warrior Games’ sport and include: 1. Scoping the establishment of national veterans sporting competitions. 2. Supporting veteran access to local sport and activities – through new strategic partnerships with established sporting venues and association as well as a digital hub connecting and coordinating veterans with existing veteran sport programs. 3. Facilitating veteran access to training and development camps, especially those catering for adaptive sport.
