Two brothers, one dream. Under the guidance of their step-father coach Vince and police officer mum Renee, the boys fight to achieve the ‘Kiwi’ dream of the black jersey. But will the game of rugby bring this whanau together or tear them apart forever? Mana and Tai Roberts are star players of Southdown High School’s First XV, which under the guidance of their step-father and coach Vince O’Kane, has just made it into Auckland’s premiere tournament, the 1A. Stakes are high – the struggling, low-decile school desperately needs a win. But the team takes a blow when Christian Deering – Southdown High First XV captain and Mana’s best friend – is poached by their bitter rivals, wealthy neighbouring private school Saint Isaac’s College. This sets in motion an all-out war between the two schools. As the bad blood spills over, Mana and Tai’s mum Renee has to deal with the brawls – she’s the local cop and she’s starting to get sick of rugby and the trouble it brings. She’s already trying to raise her sons, and her daughter Aria, who lives in the shadow of her rugby-playing brothers. -

It also supported the completion of 16 digital features. The NZFC provided strategic, logistical and financial support in the form of prints and advertising grants for seven new NZ features released in New Zealand cinemas during the year. Taika Waititi’s Contents feature filmBoy premiered at the Sundance Film Festival. It was awarded the Grand Prix award in the Generation Section of the Berlin Film Festival in February 2010 and went on to become the highest grossing NZ film of all time with a box office of more than $9 million. Gaylene Preston’s filmHome By Christmas enjoyed a highly successful cinematic release reaching $1.15 million box office. The film was nominated for 10 Qantas Film Awards. Independently financed feature documentaryThis Way of Life, directed by Tom Burstyn and produced by Sumner Burstyn, received a Special Mention in the Generation Section at the Berlin Film Festival. -

Newtro Productions presents SOUNDS GOOD @ Butler Point Hihi Mangonui Far North Sat 25 January 2020 3-6pm HOLLIE SMITH AND BAND with special guest Nathan Haines Support Band “Markyboy” Wilson & Moxieblue Hollie Smith is one of New Zealand's most predominant & iconic musicians. After working with numerous bands including Trinity Roots, Fat Freddy’s Drop and Detroit dance legend Recloose, she was approached by NZ songwriting royalty Don McGlashan to perform on the movie soundtrack ‘No.2’, recording the single ‘Bathe in The River’ that topped the New Zealand singles charts, peaking at number two and spending 37 weeks on the charts. ‘Bathe in the River’ has since become one of the biggest and most iconic singles in New Zealand history, showcasing her breathtaking and soulful talent to the world. This set the stage for Hollie’s debut album ‘Long Player’ released in 2007 which went straight to number one on the NZ charts. The album reached multi-platinum status, and was followed with sold-out tours and Hollie taking away several NZ music awards that year which included ‘Best Producer’, ‘Best Female Solo Artist’ and ‘Breakthrough Artist of the Year’. ? In 2010 she released her sophomore album ‘Humour and the Misfortune of Others’ which reached #1 in the charts and Gold status in New Zealand. Following this was her third album ‘Band of Brothers Vol 1’, a remarkable collaboration with Mara TK from Electric Wire Hustle. During this time Hollie opened for international artists including Bob Dylan, Coldplay & Simply Red. In 2013, Hollie collaborated with fellow iconic NZ singers Anika Moa and Boh Runga to release the album ‘Anika Boh Hollie’, which was followed with a successful winery tour of New Zealand. -

" 14 May 2015 / Dylan Evans Stripped of their early days of a heavier, almost nu-metal like sound and reemerging in Perth’s underground progressive rock scene, Karnivool have since gone on to release three full-length albums and become one of Australia’s most beloved alternative rock acts, with frequent plays on radio and TV across the country. That’s why it’s almost hard to believe that 10 years have already flown by since the release of Karnivool’s landmark debut LP Themata, and in honour of their roots, the Perth quintet have decided to play the album in full across the country as part of the ‘Themata Decade Tour’. It was an extremely frosty night in Melbourne, so fans and punters were already swarming the stage as to avoid the cold, and were treated to the likes of Cairo Knife Fight, a two-piece hailing from Christchurch, who opened for the night. The New Zealand duo started up by playing some very dense, doom metal-esque riffs backed by slow, purposeful snare and kick hits, but it was when drummer Nick Gaffaney opened his mouth to sing that the whole venue raised a universal eyebrow. Instead of deep, guttural lows that was expected, Gaffaney instead pounded the mic with soaring, almost hair-metal like vocals, singing each and every line with the utmost gusto. This kind of dichotomy was what made Cairo Knife Fight a hypnotizing watch. -
