American Legion essay winners The American Legion held its annual Americanism Banquet on Saturday, January 25. Local school children were invited to write essays on the topic sentence “How can we help our local veterans?” Students in grades 3-12 across all area school partici- pated. Winners for grades 3-4, 5-6, 7-8, 9-10 and 11-12 were selected for first, second and third place. A cash prize of $100.00 was awarded to all first place winners; second place winners received $75.00 and third place winners received $50.00. First place winners will go on to a district competition and upon winning there, move to the national competition. The banquet celebrated the student’s hard work with family and friends attending. A wonderful meal was served and first place winners read their essays to the audience.
