Formation: Regular dance position. Music: ''Cotton Eyed Joe" Imperial Record Action: Beginning with outside feet, touch heels forward, then touch toes back. Then with same feet (man's left and ladies right) take one two step forward in line of direction. Turn to face the other way, starting with man's right and ladies' left and repeat above. Partners separate and each does four two steps starting with outside feet, and turning away from each other with a strut or style reminiscent of the origin of the dance which is negro. Partners do four sliding, gallop, or "susie Q" steps to man's left and lai ies' right as they face each other, without 'co uching. This part is t'lfree style" and should be a chance for lots of expressing. Four slides or gallops in opposite direction. Partners take regular dancing position and t ake four t wo steps together, turning and moving forward at the same tim6 .

This is done to this part of the song: We've got the old maids in the parlor Ne 1 ve got the old ~aids in the parlor Ne 1 ve got the old maids in the parlor Knitting canaries and cats. On the chorus all face partners and turn once around with right hands. Then all face neighbors behind them and turn once with left hand. Then return to partner and take both her hands and promenade around circle. This is done to the following~ A right hand to your partner A left hand to your neighbor A right hand to your partner And all promenade And all promenade And all promenade Swing the lady behind you And all promenade. On "Swing the lady behind you'' all boys turn around and swing lady behind them, and keep her for new partner. Any extra gir~s are in the center as "old maids" and they step in behind a couple on the pr.omenade part in order to get t:swungn as the lady behind.

Formation: Couples in double circle, boys on inside, holding girls right hand in his right (back of her) and her left hand in his across his chest. Music; 11Ten Pretty Girls" - Globe record Action: Begin with left foot -- both point in front - then to the side (left), and take three quick steps to the right beginning with the left foot. Do the same starting with the right foot.

Walk four slow steps straight forward, beginning with left foot. Kick left foot forward, then straight back, and take three quick steps in place beginning with left foot. At this point the boy leaves his lady and goes on to the one ahead for his new partner. Begin all over again, this time starting with right foot.

And now right back with the same · ~ld thing Circle four half way round right and left thru And on to the next and circle four all the way around."

Now .couple 1 repeats first part of c~ll with fourth couple and then goes home. Repeat the complete call with second, third, then fourth couples leading out in turn. Explanation: First couple leads to second couple and circles four all the way round, leading gent stopping in center of set. The first and second ladies pass each other, taking right hands. Each gives her left hand to the opposite gent. The first lady is tu~ed around by the second gent so she again face the set. The second lady gives her left hand to the first gent, who passes her to the other :side of himself, where she advances and gives her right hand to the fourth lady who advances to meet her, then her left hand to the fourth man. She turns around him. and faces the set. The first man takes the fourth lady and passes her on so that she joins left hands with the on coming first lady. Each lady continues in this serpentine fashion from one side of the set to the other and back to where she started from, giving her right hand always to the ladies and her left hand to the gentleman, in circling both the fourth and second man and passing by the. first man (who stands in the center) with only a ·half turn ·to the left with each lady. The second and fourth man takes each lady as. she comes to him by the left hand, turns her around and back facing the set again. The first man standing in the center keeps turning perpet­ ually to his left, taking a lady with his left hand from one side of the set. to the other with each nalf turn. When all ladies are back to their partners again, first' couples advances to third couple who have stood inactive thus far, they circle four then change partners and swing. Then take their own partners and swing. They circle four again half way round go right and left through and on to couple numb~r 4, where they do exactly with them as they did with couple number 2. Couple one then goes home and use any break call. Repeat ·with second, third, and fourth couples leading out.

First and second man move to 'center startin~ wi th right foot and take 4 walking steps' towards each other finish touching right shoul:ders on the 4th ste.p. Hands are on chest. Now turn over left shoulder away from each other making a complete turn starting with left foot and progress to the other man's lady wi th walking steps. Turn the other lady with a walking step one way. Now come back to your own partner, first passing the other man in the center as you did before. The first man continues · in this manner vrith the 2nd, Jrd and 4th man around the set. Now do the chorus described above. Each man in the set gets a chance to move ar ound the set.
