Collier taught at a number of other colleges and universities until her retirement in 1996. In the late 1960s, Collier began contributing her writing and editing to books. She has published scholarly and critical articles as well as stories, personal essays, and poems in numerous periodicals. Her 1969 short story "Marigolds" is one of the most widely-anthologized short stories in secondary school English textbooks. In 1992, with Richard A.
